JiP Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 Its not our group, we always do a top job (unless told that we have to do something bodgie) Its the other professions that bodge things up. Like this electrician was using these screws to screw the power point plates to the walls. They were sticking out and would damage the sheets when we were to put them on. We identified them as the same screws that we use to fix villaboard onto the bathroom walls. When I asked him about it and told him what the screws were for he had no idea. He claimed he found them at home and didn't know what they were for, so decided to use them anyway. :hmm: Quote
cuzzo Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Heres an interesting one. Called in to find a water leak through the bricks and into the garage. (ajoining garage - townhouses) Knocked some bricks out and found the water path but no leak. Followed the pipe knocked a few more bricks out , nope still havent found the leak. Followed it up the wall. Knocked a few more bricks outs. End up finding the leak. A ramset nail was used for fixing the steel frame into the concrete. However the builders at the time didnt get the leak intially and sheeted the whole townhouse. It was occupied for about 4 years until we came in. The final result. The nail through the pipe was sealing the leak until; the nail finally either started to rust or became dislogded and created this water leak which followed the water pipe all the way down past two ajoining walls and out of the bricks in the garage. JiP Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 A guy on th job site i'm on now was telling us how one of his friends bought a townhouse and could smell gas. Long story short all townhouses in the complex were riddled with nails and screws in the gas lines. Luckily no one smoked. Quote
Ella Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 lol nice one... this isnt building industry but i work in a factory where similar dodgy shit goes on. best one iv seen so far was the other day all the linishing machines were in use and one of the boys was in a hurry to crank out some parts, so he made his own linishing machine, angle grinder, grinding wheel, some sticky tape and a saw horse, Viola! instant linisher... orangeLJ Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Heat would soften the glue on the tape too..... Ive clipped myself with an out of control grinder more then once and boy it hurts, but when you are holding the grinder you can manage to pull it away before it has a chance to really dig in, with the one on the bench, it would go off "willy nearly" and make a mess! :lolcry: Here I am thinking we are a bit bodgy when it comes to safety! I weld in shorts and thongs with the "close your eyes" method of protection :) Quote
Jason KE30 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 ^^haha That reminds me of what happened to me once. My dad was teaching me how to weld and all I was wearing was bordies and a singlet top, well anyway, one of the sparks from the weld I was doing decided to land on my lap, burnt through my shorts, burnt through my underwear and burnt the tip of my knob. I dropped what I was doing and started jumping around frantically in pain, holding my crutch. Long story short, I don't wear boardies while welding now. :lolcry: Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 :lolcry: That's a great story . And someone needs a smack in the head for that grinder! Quote

I thought the sparks in the shoes and pockets that catch fire were painful! I think we have been through about 5 walk around uniden phones in the last 3 years, you stick them in your top pocket and keep working, then when you go to talk, you notice a spark has burnt through the speakers or the mic! JiP Posted February 26, 2009 Author Report Posted February 26, 2009 I take it you now wear a cup when welding? Quote
