corolla_nut Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 hi guys... i'm newbie here... planning to scrap a rusty ke30 can u guys give some info about how much metal and alloy (in kilogram) that i could get? well, a standard corolla of that vintage normally weighs between 800 and 900 kgs with everything that's meant to be in it... how rusty is it? If you're just gonna scrap it, and that's the only plans you have for it, just take it to a scrappy and take what they give you. It won't be excessively much. Quote
march-oren Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 Probably less than $100. rust is about 50% i need to know how much metal i can get... how much alloy that i can get... bcoz if i tow the car to scrappy, they only give 500-600 max per car... so i'm thinking of tearing the car upside down, pun alloy on a side.. meatl on one side... and then weigh them according to market price... styler Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 ke30: in aus city $0 to $100 max pickup for a shit car complete to scrap $50 to $250 max pickup for an average car complete to wreck add up to $50 for diy delivery. Quote
philbey Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 dude the whole car is made of an alloy. if you're talking about Aluminium, then thats different. The aluminium engine parts will weight about 20kg and that's about all you'll find on the car. the rest is steel except the block which is cast iron. Quote
march-oren Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 i c... tq dude... have to cancel the plan on scrapping the rusty ke30 need it to drive to work... Quote

Do you mean 80mph or 80km/h? Biiiiig difference. Not being able to hit 80mph (130km/h) shouldn't be high on your priority list. Quote
styler Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 well probably something to do with one or more of the following: 1. wheels - out of balance, bad bearings, buckled 2. steering components worn eg tie rod ends, loose steering box 3. wheel alignment needed (bad camber/caster/toe) 4. bent strut something like that anyway... Not being able to hit 80mph (130km/h) shouldn't be high on your priority list. the spedometer shows 80mph... but the speed in my opinion is just 70-80km/h only... maybe the speedometer is not accurate.. so i think it's quite a big deal since the ke has problem to accelerate more than 80km/h Quote
Johno Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Can you upload a pic of the car, i'de love to see it  As for 80mph, you don't really need to go faster than that anyway Quote
JiP Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 When the speedo displays 80m/h, are there any other cars around?? Or are you zooming around them?? Are you LHD or RHD?? Cause i think you have a m/h speedo. If it turns out to be here are some tips... 37m/h is 60km/h 43m/h is 70km/h 50m/h is 80km/h 62m/h is 100km/h Quote
