SeptemberSquall Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 is this enough info for a cam to be reground to specs? no, it isn't. all it tells you is at what time certain events occur, or what the max value of those events is. ie. valves leave the seat at x degrees, valves return to seat at y degrees, and at z degrees max lift q is achieved, etc but what about the shape of the profile? the ramp rates, etc. you need a scan of a pair of physical camshafts to duplicate them. Rolliac Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 I wander how much different a 4k TRD engine manual would be. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 4 gears are used to drive the cam shaft on a TRD motor. 2 idlers 1 one cam 1 on crank. Was the weak point they actually had issues with them breaking. Also TRD used 2 types of oil coolers a belt driven pump or one that bolted to the front of the cam shaft and came out the timing chain cover and was a pump. Also the oil cooler can be complimented by the TRD dry sump was one for sale in NZ just a few weeks back for a pretty penny  Also 4K TRD motor hand book like this 3K one doesn't really exist. But get a copy of the TRD parts catalog and it list 3K TRd and 4K TRD parts. Motor again is same the TRD 4K parts stage 1,2,3. never really existed only done for 4K. My TRD parts catalog only list 3K but a lot fits 4k,5k, etc. Quote

towe001 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 No This is what a gear drive looks like The cam still runs in the same direction. When its in good condition the drive to the cam is positive no slack etc like what you get with a belt/chain. But the wear rate can be a little high, unless Teflon coated gears are used but then you miss out on the whine from the gears.... Quote
philbey Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Yeh I wasn't sure if it was 2 idlers like that or in sequence. the wear rate should be lower with the 2 idlers instead of one because they share the load. Quote
7FOUR7 Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 lol DAMN, I just payed almost 20 USD to buy this from american ebay and have it delivered haha Quote

parrot Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 Or you could buy a copy of the 4AGE Engine Diagnostics manual that has my handwriting on the pin-outs page. That's also available for a price on US ebay..... The stupid prick even had my forum name in the title, as that was what it was called when he lifted it of the site that hosted it for free. Quote
