parrot Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I have 2 1/4 mandrel on a worked 1600cc 4AGE and it is too loud and raspy in my opinion despite a high flow cat and lukey muffler. I actually asked for 2 1/4 pressed bends working on the premise that would be about 2 inch restriction but they did mandrel. I would prefer 2 inch personally. Can't make any informed comment on how it would effect performance either way. Quote
philthy30 Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 2 inch for NA stock2 1/4 inch NA performance 2 1/2 inch turbo 3 inch turbo performance something like that. i build exhausts for a living and i have found that generally smaller is better i think 2 inch pipe on a n/a motor is ample. as for a turbo application i would be going for 2 1/4 of 2 1/2 max this gives alot better sound and allows the exhaust to leave the head quicker. all depends what the size of the pipe leaving the headers is theres no point going any bigger than they can flow Quote
Hurricane Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 i had 2'' on my worked 3tc when i first built it, went ok, but went a hell of alot better after i built my 2 1/4 zorst with one straight through muffler on it, didnt do any dyno testing but would never run under 2 1/4 again, and on my bro datto 1200 with a L18 2ltr it was the same deal but he went to 2 1/2 stainless that we made. the only thing is it alwasy getts lounder, on all my cars i run a straight through offset muffler and it always seems to work best for power. only real way to tell on your motor is to play around, but will still depend on headers, cam and motor spec's Quote
