chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 hey everyone I'm installing a facet electric fuel pump into the boot of my rolla, i've hooked up the fuel line to this line ( pic below) i've wired everything up, but it still isnt drawing any fuel through the pump, the pump is brand new so its not the pump that is f@$ked have i conected it up to the correct line on the tank? or is there any other reasons why it is not picking up fuel cheers all chester Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 does the fuel pump need to primed? Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 nope, its self priming, and i just tested it by picking up fuel out of a jerry can, must be something with the fuel tank line Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Is the pump external or internal? Have you wired it up to a relay? Ive just put one in me KE30, its a external pump, i have a hose going from tank to pump, then pump to fuel lines obviously. then i have a earth wire in boot, and a power wire going to a relay near battery. so when i turn key to "on" the relay picks up from the coil that the car is on and the pump starts. Also, have you blocked off the mechanical pump on the block? i Pressume its in a KE70.. so a 4k? Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 its an external pump, the facet kind that most people use, the relay is all wired up, it just connected from tank to pump to a bottle at the moment so i can see if its pumping fuel or not its earthed in the boot etc. and the mechanical fuel pump has been blocked off, and its a ke70 with a 4k. it sucks fine out of a jerry can, but it wont suck out of the petrol tank.... wierd Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 yeah, check you have pump the right way... sounds stupid but i did it lol... Facet pump.. yeap, mines a 2.5 to 4 psi. try hooking it all how its supposed to be, put a bit of fuel in carby and start car. maybe it needs a bit of vacuum presure to start pumping? just an idea.. Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 yeah its all hooked up the right way :) i made sure i checked that, it was all hooked up the way it was supposed to and still no luck :D I'm out of ideas Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Double check the pump flow as Dan said, also check the wiring polarity. I know this sounds really simple, but you might be blowing bubbles in your tank!!!! The pump actually works yeah!? just nothing happens? I know you said its self priming, but have you tried manually priming it first!? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 yeah same, does it pull fuel from a can of fuel or something while its hooked in car. and does the car idle while it hooked like that? if it does, id say pull the top off the tank and clean the pickup area.. maybe its clogged. Also try putting a bit more fuel in tank..? Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 the fuel pump is fine, its pulling fuel out of a can exactly how its setup now, straight out of the boot, it just seems to be having trouble pulling the fuel out through the metal tube, what is the easiest way of taking the top of the fuel tank off? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 not too sure on best way.. never removed one before. but from looking at mine there is a ring around the top with some tabs on it. i think you turn that left intill it comes off? Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 ok this may sound stupid, but what if i make my own hole and just run a piece of fuel line into the tank? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 dodgey... wont work i don't think. Ive seen inside a tank before, not a corolla one, but it has a filter and other stuff in, breather hoses and crap. Try hooking it all up and put a bit of fuel in carby. and see if it idles..... the vacuum pressure maybe "unclog" the lines.. dunno Quote
chester_fb Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 ok reconnected up the mechanical fuel pump again, and still no luck :) was running fine before installed the electric pump and no its not pumping any fuel with either setup.... Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 did you take out the electric pump? Quote
