RainWarriorDregs Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Hey guys, Dregs here with my '83 KE70 Slant Face 4k-c um, my gearbox sounds dirty, just generally getting its crunch on and making some whirring noises. i've heard some people talking about oil in the gearbox? how can i check this level and how do i top it up? gearboxes are strange mythical creatures to me, haha cheers fellas Dregs Quote
philbey Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 there's a plug on the side of the box. Park it on flat ground and get under there, find the plug and undo it. Gear Oil bottles have a little tube on them, poke the tube in and squeeze the oil into the box til it overflows. oh yeh - drain the old oil out the bottom first too. Quote

But for a full replacement, undo the filler bolt (usually on the side of the gearbox) FIRST (nothing worse than an empty gearbox that you can't fill up), then undo the drain plug (on the bottom of the gearbox) and drain into a container, replace the drain plug, then fill with fresh gearbox oil until it reaches the lip of the filler plug (no dipstick or anything apart from your finger). Thats general instructions, can't remember exactly where the plugs are on a K-series box, but should be fairly easy to work out. Quote

(make sure car is in neutral otherwise gearstick can be difficult to remove and refit) Quote

dfunkt Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 cheers taz, yet another set of numbers i'll need to adjust in my head. Quote
