Corolla1 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 what 5 speed would be best for KE35 2 door?? would i have to get speedo re adjusted?? are the ratios the same Quote
JiP Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Adjust the speedo yes and you'd want one from a KE55, NOT A KE70 othewise you'll need to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. Quote
Gavatron Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) Or if you can get a KE55 5 speed extension housing, you can swap it onto the KE70 and it will line up no problems. Edited September 19, 2008 by Gavatron Quote
KE555k Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Sorry to hijack thread, but once you do have the new gearbox, how do you go about setting up the speedo? Does it all connect up or do you need to get a custom cable made up? Quote
coln72 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 All connects up - may not be accurate though. Personally I'd go for the KE70 box because I felt that the shifter was in a better position when compared to the KE55 box. Quote
towe001 Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 You'd be able to use the ke55 speedo gear drive (or what ever its called thats in the gearbox), yes ? Quote
JiP Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Things that change your speedo's whack is... Changing gearbox (4 to 5 speedo or vice versa) Changing rim/tire size/profile Changing diff Its not that bad once you know how much more/less you have to drive. Quote
philbey Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 i would have thought changing from a k40 to a k50 wont change your speed reading - it will read off the output shaft so will stay the same, and it would be unlikely they run different drive gears etc. Quote
