RainWarriorDregs Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, i'm new to this, I got a boss kit off ebay from asia and i got a steering wheel to add some customness (i don't think thats a word) to my ke70 (1983 KE70 Corolla 1.3L). i've heard about people needing a certificate to make it legal, can anyone shed some light on this, i just forked out 40 bucks for a boss kit and 80 for a wheel and i don't wanna get defected for it. The wheel is 350mm, so its only like 20mm smaller than the original so i'm not too worried about that, its the boss kit i'm concerned about. I tried google and stuff, but all i find is people trying to sell boss kits. dammit :P cheers fellas Dregs Edited September 1, 2008 by RainWarriorDregs Quote
mikey_m Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 I am not sure, have not even really seen anyone investigate it. My first thought would be to check vehicle compliance against the ADR for the time. I have a KE70 as well, I think we both fall under the Second Edition ADRs in conjunction to the specified compliance on the plate. The plate will indicate which sections it complies to. ADRs can be found here - http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/mot...sign/index.aspx hope this helps Quote
silverra23 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Generally speaking having a sports steering wheel on your car will be fine, boss included, if the steering wheel is not wooden. The authorities also like to see the centre crash pad area padded, rather than metal. Never known anyone to get pinged for using a dodgy chinese boss, but have heard some stories of steering wheels coming off on the circuit with these bosses. Quote
brendan Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 hey i got pulled over last month and got defected for every little thing there is including the boss and wheel....but theres other times i get pulled over get done for everything but the boss and wheel so i dunno very clueii I'm intersted in finding out to! RainWarriorDregs Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 thanks fellas, called the coppers and the road authority people up here and they had no clue. all i got was "nah, she'll be apples" and stuff like that. no idea its weird, my mate has a 320mm wheel on his RA60 and he's been pulled up and they've never noticed it, complete with chinese boss kit strange Quote
greenmac80 Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 ok for it to be perfectly legal the boss kit must be collaspable. when you buy it the shop should give you a certificate with the details and also the car it is meant for. keep this in your car and also a sticker is common as well put this on the kit or on your window. same goes for the steering wheel. it costs a bit more but worth it if a coppa pulls you over and tries to defect you for it. if the shop can't provide you with the right stuff then it isn't going to be legal! fozz Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 autotechnica bosskits are adr complaint and so are saas but it really dosent matter the cops don't really defect you for boss kits but more for steering wheel diameter and yours is larger than 320mm so your pretty safe unless u get a cop whose power trippin Quote
