legless Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Hello guys and girls. Newbie here looking for some info on putting a small turbo on 4A-FE engine. Firstly has it been done before? and secondly can it be done?... I was also thinking bout an engine coversion later on. BUT what i was thinking was to use a turbo and manifold off a turbo starlet or something that would match the 4A-FE head and upgrading the fuel system slightly. Is there an injector upgrade for this engine? Also would it be worth remapping the ECU? I'm not looking for huge numbers here just a bit more power and torque so i can have some fun with it. Any info would be much appreciated. thanks Quote

beerhead Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Toyota starlets don't run a 4A motor, they've got a 4EFTE, so the manifolds won't be any good. Toyota ecu's can't be remapped, you'll need to go to a stand alone unit, or a piggy back. It might be worth looking into a 4AGZE swap if you want decent torque, that way you can use a factory ecu for the job. Quote
Felix Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Go and join http://www.celicatech.com/forums/index.php. They have the best info I've seen on turboing 4afe's. Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 if your talking about the later model of 4afe then you could bolt on all the turbo bits off a 7afe turbo engine, getting those parts would be almost impossible though I would think seeing how few where made. Quote
legless Posted August 28, 2008 Author Report Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) so maybe an engine conversion is the way to go! Has anyone heard of a 4A-FE engine being turbo'd? Edited August 28, 2008 by legless Quote
D1doony Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 why would you want to turbo a fwd corolla :sob: if you want more power 4age or 4agze straight bolt in I'm assuming being an ae92 Quote
legless Posted August 28, 2008 Author Report Posted August 28, 2008 not a very popular idea is it! oh well back to the old drawing board. thanks for your help. Quote
