RainWarriorDregs Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Hey guys, i've got an old '83 KE70 thats my daily, done a few little mods to it, like interior (steering wheel, tacho, gear knob, stereo, dash mat, under chair neons heheheheh) and some exterior (rims, wipers etc) and some engine (pod HAHAHAHA, i know, new radiator, new filters everywhere!) nothing flash, just a little muck around, but its having some running problems. it stumbles at low rpm and really screws about accelerating, i know its a 4k but more than usual. i've run some carby cleaner just through the tank and its improved a bit, but the mechanic said it has the wrong fuel pump on it. i've sourced another from someone kind on here  and i'm just waiting for money to pay for it. but i have a feeling that its running REALLY rich and that the idle speed is too low. i think. so whilst i'm waitng for the fuel pump, i thought i'd address these problems. I think its running rich coz it smells like its not burning all the fuel, like it smells like petrol when i stop and stuff. problem: i can't find the air/fuel mixture screw, i can find the idle speed (its the big one near the throttle wire on the back of the carby right? near the cabin) and the fast idle screw thingy, its close to the throttle one of the left right? but my stupid haynes workshop manual doesn't have a decent picture of the air fuel ratio one. can anyone help me out? with pics? or any ideas what i can do to make the sucker run a bit better. i use the lead substitute stuff and run premium through it (like i've done with all my cars) and i take care of the oil (can't change the sucker at the moment coz the drain bolt it TIGHT and i don't have a breaker bar.... yet ;) ) and i've just replaced the radiator with one in better condition and filled the sucker full of glycol. also, is it righty tighty make its idle faster and lefty loosey make it idle slower? might be stupid question :no2: thanks for your help guys!!! :) Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 This is more out of interest, but why is the fuel pump wrong? do you have any pictures of your current fuel pump? btw, the 4k will run unleaded fine (alloy head) Chris Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 i don't know. the mechanic said that the plate that fits over the gaskets and onto the inlet isn't the right shape so there's a small hole that was leaking fuel. they filled it with glue :no2: i'll get pics tommorow, but i dunno, maybe the problems not the fuel pump but the air/fuel mixture so a 4k can just run straight unleaded?
