A friend of mine has basically a complete 12A turbo engine in his garage and has offered to do an engine conversion for me for extremely cheap. It is my understanding that this wont be legal but he seems to think it is.

What i want to know is if its a good idea? Can it be engineered and if so what sort of work would be required to get it to pass?

also what would be the best way to go about strenghthening the chassis. I was thinking roll cage and seam welding or is seam welding a waste of time?

damn... thats one of the other ideas i had for my wagon ;)

ahh well... if you can get it cheap (depends what cheap is) rock on \o/

remember thou that you'll most likely need to change engine mounts, gearbox hole, mounts, gearbox itself if it doesnt come with one, tailshaft etc etc etc

all of that is the reason why I'm not doing another engine just yet, and sticking with the 4K.. mainly cause i can't afford all the other crap you need when engine transplanting

but i'd be in heaven.... love my rollas and love my rotaties.. also love my fords, so what'd be awesome (maybe in the future) would be a 13BT w/ ford 9 inch... I'm SUREEE it'd fit... somehow....

There is a limit to how "big" an engine you can fit, but I forget the ratio (it's a weight/capacity ratio thing). For instance I'm fairly certain putting a 13BT in a KE20 is illegal. But then again it all depends on who modplates your car, I've seen 13BT KE20's modplated before even though technically it is illegal.

You will need brakes "equivalent or better" than donor car - in your case if it's an AE86 shouldn't really be too much of a problem. Besides there are easy bolt on upgrades for AE86.

Diff, suspension, tyres etc, no need to touch unless it's not roadworthy, although you'll probably blow something up if you don't treat it nice.

chassis, cage, seamwelding - all up to you. Seamwelding as far as I've heard does work, but is a fair bit of work for not so much gain. But it does help. Cage, if you want it. Will probably save your life if you crash and will stiffen chassis. Again up to you.

I have a KE35, it is getting a stock 4AGE. It won't be remarkably fast, but it will be getting a cage, but no seamwelding because I tried, and I suck at welding. Would have been nice to seamweld it though. Maybe in another lifetime.

yes the thing is, i was originally going to put money into other areas like suspension, diff, body etc and then go with a 16v 4age as I'm not really after big power. But this offer for so cheap has got me thinking 8.

I was thinking of purchasing another 86 and making a project of it so i can still get to work and such.

Oh and redline is merely a suggestion.

My opinion

Get it done.

You'll just need to take it easy until you get all the optional mods done. Just do the minimums to get it engineered.

Just have some self control, realise that the car isnt setup for the power output yet and drive to your and the cars abilitys....no more

There are a few things that will be atteneded to before the 12a goes ahead such as the body roll problem and the open differential problem and the sticky caliper problem.

Theres no rush as my mate still has to build the engine and sort out the fuel system and other little things. I may even toy with some 4age power.

Maybe i should just buy another 86 and build that up? $$

with the release of Inital D english version i've seen a lot more interest in sprinters...unfortunatley mostly from 'ful sic' noobs who think ae86's are drift machines....yeah they can drift but certainly not the best car to do it in...esp if you don't know what you're doing

they may be around atm but i daresay the stocks are going to be depleated by wannabe takumi tards putting them into poles

on the upside though at least they're retaining their value :KY:
