rwdrolla Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 (edited) i'm sick of arseholes at intersections dragging off in thier clubsports, etc, so let me announce the idea of a commonwhore eater. just ideas at this stage, might get serious when some $$ comes in, but i'd love to build a car for thrashing around in. maybe starting with a AE71 sedan, not sure which engine to go for, AGZE or a AGE with turbo. turbo gets a lil tricky, and wont be much of a sleeper with a huge intercooler, and loud BOV. but still. something RWD, with lots of grunt, and a 5 speed to match it. most likely a rollcage, and guttered inside for best weight reduction. who needs comfort and fiddly air con knobs? ;) any ideas where to point me regards to body and engine mods? whats good, cheap, etc. i'm not going to be spending more than $8000 for the whole project, just something thats not a stock rolla, and not quite a rally / drag racer. i could care less about the outside of it, just lots of grunt and wheelspin :D Edited February 25, 2005 by rwdrolla
Jason Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 you do release you don't have to have a bov, or just have a recirculating one? the IC can be hidden :D
rwdrolla Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 hmms, but then i'd have to fork out heaps of $$$ on ricey parts here and there, like intercoolers, and thermo fans, and ricey i-dunno-wtf-that-does, that, and i-dunno-wtf-that-does this. etc. (ie: anodised or chromed shiny bits all over the engine bay. :D
Jason Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 yep :D + getting the self satisfaction that YOU have done it all
rwdrolla Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 yeah, i was looking at doing about 50% of the work myself, at least i mean, things like roll cage, and brake upgrades, i'll leave to the pros
Teddy Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Bahah if jason an i can do the crazy shite that we have done, anyone can with some *YES LETS DO THIS* mood, and lots of $$ lol (thanks jason :D)

MissSydneyCruising Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 you guys get away with EVERYTHING in qld.. just bodgy it, she'll be right! :D
irokin Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 My father (who works for qld transport) rencently dragged serveral approved persons through court for dodgy stuff (approved persons are the guys that do mod plates, roadworthies etc etc). They are facing upto 9 years jail time. So I think you'll find the mood from approved persons will be changing alot in the coming months.

rwdrolla Posted February 27, 2005 Author Report Posted February 27, 2005 (edited) Are rollcages legal? And are there any other major "anti-extra-safety" restrictions? I know adding new seats and harnesses is not road legal :D I don't see why, they are safer. Edited February 27, 2005 by rwdrolla
demuire Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 Rollcages, legal if you have removable side impact bars (and you're meant to remove them when you drive on the road). They have to be blue plated. Seats, legal if you get ADR approved ones. If you modify the rails to fit (drill holes, weld, cut etc) which you'll most likely have to do, then you have to get it blue plated. Use 3mm steel and high tensile grade 8.8 bolts if you make an adaptor plate to match the seats and you shouldn't have a problem with engineering. Harnesses, legal as long as you also have a standard ADR approved retractable belt, and you're also supposed to wear that when you drive on the street.
rwdrolla Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 hmms. how much do i steal from a bank to get a rollcage put in?? i mean, i'm a noob when it comes to car part prices, and was just trying to budget for a rollcage in my new build. $500?? $1000? $2000??? more?
demuire Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 You'd be looking at at least $1000, and it just goes upwards from there. Obviously the more you pay the nicer/better the cage.
