Barneybdb Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 G'day guys, I have a problem with the cigarette lighter in the wifes 96 Seca. The nut that holds it in to the centre console has come undone, I have tried putting it back on but cannot get my fingers through the ashtray opening and cannot reach it from the back of the console. Can anyone help with instructions on how to remove the centre console trim so I can do it up again. I need to get it fixed so the wife can plug the GPS in. Regards, Barney. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Able to post up a photo of your dash area tonight at all? Quote
Teddy Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 G'day Barney. From memory, i think you need to remove the lower trims from below the steering wheel, and the glove box assembly to give access to being able to pull the center console out. Once its out, its a piece of cake ;) If one comes into work soon, ill have another look. At worst, take some pics of the center console / lower dash area and it should prompt my memory a little clearer. don't get to work on many of these older ones.. they never break lol. Ted Quote

Hiro Protagonist Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 To get the front section of the centre console out, you need to remove the following (in order, but going from memory so maybe not 100%) 1) Rear Centre console - remove the two bolts inside the compartment (underneath the carpet) and the two screws on the side near the front of the seats. Remember to unclip the central locking wiring so you don't rip it out too 2) Front door sills - should just pop out with a bit of leverage 3) Drivers and passengers kick panels - should be only a screw or two in obvious places 4) Glove box - pop open the lid to get to the screws along the top front edge of the glovebox, may be a screw or two at the bottom as well, or may come out with the lower dash panel too 5) Drivers and passengers lower dash panels 6) Front centre console - two screws at the top above the console bin, two where the console joins the lower dash The 271 Gregorys manual goes through it in detail, too cold outside to go and get it from the car though ;) Done it a few times to install the shortshifter and paint the dash, every time I seem to come up with a spare screw or two, with nowhere to put them ;) Quote
