noidea Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Heya, I'm a Corolla fan and have had 6 Corollas in the family an 88/89 twincam (awesome to drive), 88 stocky sedan (was a family beast), 91 corrolla seca (still have), 02 Hatch and now the 2005 ascent hatch. Unfortunately i don't know much about the the stereo systems and my CD player in 05 hatch keeps coming up with an 'error 1' when i insert a cd. Radio works fine and this is about 3 months out of warranty. I don't want to fork out $300 to fix, i hoping someone on here would be able to help me out? If anyone can give me an tips/ideas/suggestion on how to fix this prob it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, PJH  Quote

If anyone can give me an tips/ideas/suggestion on how to fix this prob it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, PJH  Just one question.... Has this been skipping before this? error 1 usually is related to not being able to read the disc. this can and most often does happen after a number of dirty discs have been played. When using cd players it is very very important to have the disc clean and in particular the inner rim of the disc. this will usually sit on a rubber ring or pad which over time collects dust and dirt etc. The acts very very similar to the clutch in a manual car and after enough contamination the rubber is ineffective at spinning the discs properly. So to fix this remove sad CD play pull cover off and get to the mechanism (obviously have any cds out of it before disassembly.) Then clean with cotton bud and metho. It might not seem much but it does make a hug difference. This is what happens with most cd players. You will be suprised at how many I have purchased of evilbay and fix within 3 hours of having unwrapped them.. :P: It may not look like you have clean too much but you will be amazed. Handle you cd's and dvds by their outer edge not the centre hole. This applies to all cd/dvd players. including DVR, computer etc etc. Cheers Quote
Teddy Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 ^ excellent advise Short of this not working, the CD players in the Toyota Australian range from i think.. 02 ? (possibly earlier?) onwards really are nothing too crash hot. To be completely honest, they are unreliable pieces of crap. Regularly units are getting replaced in cars with as low as 2000 kms on them because the CD player just wont accept a CD, or wont play it, or wont spit it back out, or simply just wont turn on. Not to mention the other issues you stumble across.. When they work, they are a nice simple unit to use with a few basic adjustable setting that even granny could work out. If you cannot get yours to work by a few.. home methods, either justify having to spend $300 on the steaming pile of dog poo, and get some form of warranty with that; or get a non-gen unit. Quote
noidea Posted August 11, 2008 Author Report Posted August 11, 2008 The CDs hadn't skipped much before, but we do handle our CDs with care always outside and back in case etc... Thanks for the advice will try cleaning with the metho and bud. What about ne of theose cd disc cleaners? would that work at all? Thanks again.. Quote
