dvk-kp Posted August 4, 2008 Author Report Posted August 4, 2008 lol cool! so who actually inforces the rules bout engine conversions etc? Quote
7shades Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 The government, under various names different in each state. Basically, if you're going to do a conversion, you contact an approved engineer FIRST, then go through with them what you intend to do. He will then tell you what you HAVE to do during the course of the build to get it all approved and legit. Stuff like bigger brakes, chassis strengthening etc etc. The engineer will quite often need to inspect the project at certain points during the build to make sure you're doing it all properly. So once its all done (to his standards) you then get your modification plate(s) and attach them to the car... I think you guys have a similar plate system over there but yours is better... because whilst we have to get 7 million bloody plates for each mod, you just get one with all the mods etched on it  Quote
corolla_nut Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 in NSW you have to get a rego check every year. or at least I have to. I think that Australia is way too overgoverned and over legislated. I can't remember what all the points are but you get 3 points on your red P's, 6 points on your greens and 12 on your blacks. How does the licensing scheme work in NZ? Over here you get your L's when your 16, minimum of 12 months and they've changed it so now you have to do 120 hours with a licensed driver which includes 20 night hours. Red P's when your 17. Not allowed to drive "high performance" or "modified cars" (same with Green P's), get caught speeding at all and you lose your license. 90km/h speed limit, fines for not displaying P plates on exterior of vehicle, loss of license for using phone while ignition is on. only 1 passenger after i think 11pm. Minimum of 12 months. 0 Blood alcohol level. Green P's for 24 months, so ideally you get them when you're 18 and go onto blacks when you're 20. You don't lose your license for minor speeding offences. Both the Provisional licenses give the cops a right to hassle you. 100km/h speed limit. Minimum points you lose for speeding is 3 points. irokin Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Err we can just get one plate with all our mods on it. I've got multiple mods on my plate. I don't think I've ever seen a car in QLD with more than one plate. Quote

Clown Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 i always thought that if u had an air filter pokin out the top of the bonnet, it can't exceed a certain measurement.mainly because if u hit someone and they go over the bonnet, u would most likely cause them more damage with air filter. Thats a scoop, can only be a certain height and angle to make it legal. Funnily enough though, in vic you can drive without a bonnet, as long as theres no shape objects and moving parts covered  Bonnets are they requiredYes, unless all sharp projections, rotating machinery and hot items like exhaust manifolds are fitted with protective covers Quote
dvk-kp Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 (edited) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C.../p-72900938.htm picture 11 is a cert plate. you do what ever you want to your car then go for a cert. they check everything over so its all good then you get one of those. then you can get a warrant and cops can't touch you (unless you change something). its about $300 for it so it pays to do everything you want and get it all checked in one go otherwise it costs you. most of the time they arnt to concerned about the little stuff eg (wheel size etc)... our license system is a joke really. is so easy. when you turn 15 you can go and sit your learners which is just a 45 question multi choice test about road rules etc. can only get 3 wrong or you fail. once you get your learners your suppose to only drive with a fully lisenced driver... you stay on that for 6 months then go and sit your restricted which is a supervised driving test. you just drive round town for half an hour and if the tester is happy you pass. on your restricted you can drive by yourself but only drive between 5am-11pm unless you have a fully licensed driver with you. your not supposed to carry any passengers either unless one of them has their full. you stay on that for 18 months. then you do another supervised driving test but this time you have to point out hazzards. then you can drive whenever and with who ever you want. so you can be fully lisenced by 17 if your good. if you break any of the rules you just get fined $200-$600 depending on what it is. theres no driving hours or car restrictions. can drive an Evo 8 on your learners if you can get your hands on one.
