Open wheeler steering wheels are small because they can't fit anything bigger in there. Look at a V8 supercar wheel, it'll be 14" or 15". I have a 13" wheel in the old car, and I believe it could really use a 14"wheel. Small steering wheels are VERY overrated. We still use standard steering wheels on the utes.....

Tell me, do you find that you drive with your thumbs on the inside of the steering wheel?

i had a small wheel on mine - 13". Couldnt see the gauges, and turning it at low speed was annoying. Turning at high speed was not much better. Race cars have smaller wheels, but they also have steering ratios to suit (to what i know).. high speed stuff. But i do like the look of small wheels :lock:

i like my small wheels and in small cars like this the stering is so light so thats not a prob and i can spin a small wheel alot faster than a stock one

I have a small car, and my steering is bloody heavy!

Personally I don't see any point in a steering wheel any smaller than 350mm in a "normal" car. Like Rob said, they usuallly have tiny wheels in formula 1's etc because that's all they can fit in there. You'll also notice a lot of them have flat bottoms, cause again they need the space. Hell, some of them don't even have bottoms or tops!
