Retrospekt Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Yo bro's, my ke55 is about to die and i do not have enough money or patience to maintain 2 old rollas (i like the 20 more... it shall stay on as a project) so, ive decided to buy a toy to drive when needed. i live in the cbd so i drive for shopping, to the girls house and thats about all. a sw20 has been a dream since i was in primary school, and hopefully by next week should have one. does anyone on here own one/previously owned one? i know to check minor stuff but anything mr2 specific to check for? ps. I'm expecting to be shot down for choice, but my choice is my choice. cheers mangs Quote
7shades Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Awesome little cars. Not overly problematic, interiors can go to shit if not looked after, cooling can sometimes be an issue... other than that, they're just a backwards 'rolla with cool pop up lights :bash: Quote

never Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 As 7shades said make sure the cooling system is in good condition and has been flushed at some point. Quote
7shades Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 I think you're thinking of an AW11....SW20s have nothing in common with Corollas. Ah yeah, you're right Shoulda said Camry :bash: Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Ah yeah, you're right Shoulda said Camry :bash: Should have said Celica. That way you'd actually have a chance of getting a 3SGE (or GTE) Quote
Retrospekt Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 Ok basically what i knew already, but the collective knowledge of every other forum i checked amounted to not alot. Sunday is the day i look at it. AFAIK theres no major engine work. allthough it does have a LT10s and hand controller which suprises me. (even though i know nothing about aftermarket engine management being a carby boy) Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 we have one, and we love it... BUT you have to check the seals arount the targa and the windows, if they leak it's a bit of a pain in the arse to get them... check the drivers wing on the seat, sometimes that's worn, check the lights go up and down, check the shroud under the front bonnet isn't damaged (bitch to find another one) and for more info, go here: http://www.mr2club.com.au/ there's a web based forum, that links from there, and I believe an online edition of TEN/10th's which is the club magazine... the boot although is small, will fit your shopping and general stuff, they're an absolute BLAST to own, they stick to the road like you wouldn't believe and handle beautifully.... good luck with your purchase :bash: Lesley :) Quote
Retrospekt Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Exactly the info i need to hear. Thanks Lesley. Is yours a 3sge or 3sgte? Pics? Quote
SoulSearcher Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 we have a 3SGE BEAMS Red Top conversion... we've had it about 8 years and it's been a joy :bash: she's needing some work though.. I keep spending too much money on the rolla and the deux isn't getting the attention it deserves... Quote
Clown Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 90% of targa tops will leak at some stage. Mine leaks (passanger side only), but luckily its only if its sitting during heavy rain. Quote
Retrospekt Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 had a look today... and all is good. drive it home hopefully during the week Quote
Retrospekt Posted July 28, 2008 Author Report Posted July 28, 2008 waiting on the owner to get the rwc done... all i want to do is drive it aha Quote
Mmm Boost Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Just give it a good going over for previous crash damage...if you don't know how to drive a mid engined car properly, you can put them backwards through things very easily, and alot of jap imports were. One of the biggest things is to never back off :bash: Quote
