harun Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I have just recently pulled my tank out of the '20 to clean the bottom as i thought there would be 32 years worth of gunk in it.To my surprise the only thing i collected were 2 metal shavings the size of 20 cent peices.Other than that it was very clean. So i will be running the car to E from now on. JiP Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Apparently it is bad for the car to run it so low. Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 its not so much about the crap thats in the bottom on the tank but more so the fuel surge that will result during cornering. I'm running a 2 ltr surge tank and still wont let my car go below 1/4. fuel surge=leaning out the motor=blown motor=big bucks to rebuild Quote
harun Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Did not think it would harm the engine in any way. Will take into consideration. Cheers Quote
JiP Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Yeah, I ran my KE30 bone dry about a month ago while on my way to my mechanic. luckily I ran out right outside. He then gave me a lecture on the importance of not letting it get so low. Quote
irokin Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 For an old corolla it wont hurt. If the tanks clean and you're not going to pick up any crap into your carby etc then I can't see an possibility for adverse effects. Modern cars however.... The fuel pump won't like running dry for one, nor will the injectors. Doing it once or twice won't kill them but repeated efforts will. Quote
SLO-030 Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 I ran my 25 dry once, all i kno it was a bloody long walk to the servo Forbes park shopping center to Mick Scorpos servo. hahaha, good times. yea id say it held 40 to 45L. CHEERS Ryan Quote
corolln Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 it says in the manual i have 50L tank in mine but i run it empty n i only ever put like 40max in... then it just wont let me put any more in :) Quote
KE20rollabus Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Posted July 16, 2008 thaks for all the responses guys! :) unfortunetly my gregorys manual dosent list fuel tank capacity for a ke20.... so by the sounds of things they must hold 45 litres. does anyone have a rolla manual with it listed? the reason i started this topic was because my 4k is slowly running rough and using heaps more juice. What km/litres do other Ke20 owners get?? :hmm: Quote

greenmac80 Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 mine is a ke55. mine is a 50L but when running it dead empty it took 43L to fill my mate has a ke30 but his has like a 70 litre. must've been an aftermarket lond distance one or something. Quote
JiP Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Thats cause from the F to the E the KE30/KE55 holds 40 Ltrs. Somewhere under the E should be 10 ltrs Quote
godlovesugly Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 mine costs about $50 to fill up. i think the tank must be getting bigger though cause it only cost $40 last year. Quote
Jason Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 What I never understood about the picking up the crap in the bottom story is that the fuel pick up is on the bottom any way.... Quote

Supposedly the cat doesn't like it either, but with most modern cars you have an accurate fuel gauge and a low-level light that actually works.....unlike KEs, which have a fuel gauge that one second decides it is full and the next it's empty. Jerry-can was a constant companion in the boot of the KE55 whenever I had it, ran out of fuel on me twice. Quote
