tte Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 hi guys, wanna share your launching techniques? mine. 1)rev my standard engine until the point where there's no tyre scratch (practice few times to know the exact point). 2.press clutch,go for first gear and lift up the handbrake. 3.when feel the rear portion of the car starts to lift, drops the handbrake and go for the finishing line. anyway,i have some problems here. each time during drag,i rev the car till the redline, but my friend can catch me from the back.i feel there's loss of power in the 5k rpm region..so which one is the real or the best way? rev the engine to the max at each gear or whenever we feel the engine can't stand it anymore? Jason Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 (edited) not having any experience what so ever, but why do you use the hand brake? would be easier to have your foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time? then screwing around with the hand brake? Teddy Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 foot to floor, let the thing valve bounce like crazy, hold clutch 1mm before it grips, and when the last orange light goes, drop the clutch. Me? i don't drag. Quote
kangaroosa Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 My fav way - Stage the car and apply just enough handbrake to stop it rolling (basically i mean, don't rip the handbrake on full). Grab 1st gear and then press the release button on handbrake so all you then have to do is release the tension when you want to leave the lights. (nothing worse than missing a start because your fumbling with the release button). I personally don't hold full revs on the line - i prefer to give it 2 quick revs and release the clutch on the third rev. (this takes a bit of practice...but it works for me). I usually don't leave the line with a heap of wheelspin either. I choose to simply slip the clutch a little. As for revving it to redline in each gear....well you know your car best. I find that if the car begins to flatten off at 6000rpm, well then theres not point revving it any further as it not making any more power. You would probably be best grabbing another gear instead of revving the engine just for the sake of it. This is just my preferred method - Its also not so hard on the engine and driveline. Quote
Redwarf Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 You do know that on a Corolla, if you unscrew the handbrake button, remove the spring, and replace the button, you now have a handbrake that won't lock on? Just remember to replace the spring before hitting the road again..... Quote
1G-GTE KE70 Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 i was fiddling around with that the other day and found that out too. haha saves me buying a drift handbrake button \m/ Quote
