AE71UTE Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 i have a AE71 wagon. the one with 2 windows on each side not the single windows and the other bit painted metal. I'm cutting the sides and the roof off to make it into a ute with high sides. behind the seats will require a window. was thinking maybe a ford lazer hatch window welded in there. any ideas? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Try maybe a hilux ute rear windsreen. Reason I say that is it should be about the right size, and hiluxs are everywhere, hence making it easy to find and cheap!! Then if you ever break it, can easily find another. For the same reasons I would also suggest a commo ute one, but don't know how size would compare......and who wants Holden parts in there toyota!!! :) :yak: Quote
simsey Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 hell yeah thats gonna look sick as bro, what else you doin to her? Quote
AE71UTE Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 I'm trying to fine a new dash at this point. the fun part will be welding it all up and putting the struts on the shaz so she doent bend. Quote
JiP Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 You could try the rear window from the KE36's as they're narrow Quote
goldke70 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 I agree with Taz Rx, Hilux rear screens are flat as so this will help with fittment, plus you can get ones that slide open (optional) If a hilux is too wide try a datto ute or an early mazda ute. Shame to see a pano cut up, but I've seen a yellow 70/71 ute and it looked sweet, GL with it!! :) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) Just had another idea......see if you can get the whole rear panel from a hilux!!! The you have half of that work done and the window is already sealed! :) Edited July 9, 2008 by Taz_Rx Quote
Trev Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 I have seen a commodore wagon turned into a ute and they used the top section of the hatch as the rear window altho it did look a bit out of place cause the window was huge. Quote
AE71UTE Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 would love to find a whole panel that only needs a bit of cutting to fit so the window is already sealded in. Quote
goldke70 Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Just had another idea......see if you can get the whole rear panel from a hilux!!! The you have half of that work done and the window is already sealed! :) I just have a feeling that the hilux will be slightly too wide and not give you enough room between the glass and where you need to round the edges, I can't remeber how wide it was on my old hilux or I'd measure it across the back of my pano for ya.. Pic 90-95 Hilux x-tra cab... would be perfect if it fit... :yak: Quote
philbey Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Just had another idea......see if you can get the whole rear panel from a hilux!!! The you have half of that work done and the window is already sealed! :) Exactly my thoughts. Get an early model hilux, mid 80's. Would be squarer and narrower too. Get a portable angle grinder and swing on down to a commercial vehicle wrecker and you're set.... Quote
TE278U Posted July 12, 2008 Report Posted July 12, 2008 why not use the glass that came with the car, in the tailgate with the surround that it is in. guaranteed to be narrow enough. Quote
goldke70 Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 why not use the glass that came with the car, in the tailgate with the surround that it is in. guaranteed to be narrow enough. Cause their massive, It would be like having a complete glass rear wall Quote
JiP Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I know its a bit random, but my parents had a Mitsubishi Canter and its rear window would be the size that you would want. Quote
AE71UTE Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 Love the idea of cutting the hilux. it would be cool to have it all in one piece. i tryed the old wagon window and it was massive. just looked funny and would have a small bit of metal wall on the bottom to make it look out of place. I'm off to the wreckers today so ill check it all out. Quote
