japlish Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 a mate and i just put in a elec 4k dizzy in his ke70, as far as i know we installed it right and seems to run ok but it pings its but off! even when i adjust the timing as far as i can both ways (the slot in the dizzy limits how far i can rotate it) it still does it, and when we do get it to almost stop pinging its slugish as all hell!! whats going on??? philbey Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 seems to run ok but it pings its but off! Thats an oxymoron! Anyway, you might have got your dizzy in 180 degrees out of whack which would cause all sorts of issues. Quote
DearmanKE Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 what he said, take it out n put it back in the other way round ;) Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 you could also have it a few teeth out.. you really need a timing light to dude. Quote
philbey Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 No teeth on a K series dizzy, its got a tongue and groove drive. Only 2 ways it'll go in. Quote
Trev Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 No teeth on a K series dizzy, its got a tongue and groove drive. Only 2 ways it'll go in. Ummm what, No it don't and you can put a screwdriver into the oil pump and turn it to suit the dizzy. Quote

If the dizzy is 180 degrees out, the spark plugs, spark on the fuel in stroke. right? ie: car will not start, ever. Chirs Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 it may actually be sparking properly and burning the fuel, are you sure it didnt ping before? my 4k would ping with standard timing on regular. Quote
lappy Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Use a timimg light and try running it on premium unleaded that will stop the pinging aswell Quote
philbey Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) Ummm what, No it don't and you can put a screwdriver into the oil pump and turn it to suit the dizzy. yeh no shit, brain fade, thats the oil pump drive. :D 12 hour days. Wrong tooth on the dizzy. Last dizzy brainfade I had, I plugged all the leads on my 911 in reverse order (these german engineers are so good, they don't bother labelling the dizzy caps) so instead of firing 123456 I had 165432 and the thing ran but wouldnt rev..... pretty funny. japlish Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 its working ok now, it wasnt 180 deg out just a tooth out (which i thought couldn't happen) thanks :D Quote
