DouggehKE30 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Found the problem. The bock was cracked along the seam. Seems like somone put to big welsh plugs in. So now need to find another moter, want to upgrade to 7k. Read last post (reply)...... Thought i would do this instead of a new topic... I put my 5k in this week is SOOO much better than the old 3k. Any way. I couldnt find anything anywhere on the site so i am asking you people. It seemes that the 5k has another hose coming off the back of the head. where the 3k has just a flat plate. I was just woundering if it goes onto a "T" peace or somwhere else? I just have it blocked off for now, but i guess it goes somwhere. If i could get a picture, or somthin that would be sweet. I don't know what i would do with out the rolla club. Cheers Doug ................................................................................ ...................... Thanks for all your help ;) ..... I will leave it blocked, unless someone comes up with a better idea ;) But by the sounds of it leaving it blocked is the way to go. silverra23 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I had this same thing with the 4k i just put in my Ke10. The Corolla Guru told me I could just block it off with a plate, so that has been done. Quote
DouggehKE30 Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 sounds like the heater hose... I guessed that bit. ;) Where is it suposed to go? thats what I'm getting at. Quote

Theoretically you should run your heater hose system the same way your old engine did it. Your system is likely not to need this outlet so blanking it off is the way to go. That was the case with my K engine in my KE10. Quote
sammo[RL] Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 guessed that bit. Where is it suposed to go? thats what I'm getting at. On my 3k ke30, it goes from the back of the head, onto a plug in the firewall, and to the heater. Then theres a return line back out the firewall, and to the water pump... don't know if that helps.. DouggehKE30 Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 This has baffled me for ages.... I keep losing water about half a liter a week (depending on what I'm doing) I have presure tested the syestem and can not find the leak and i am fed up with having to check the water all the time. I have never found water coming out of the Heater, the radiator cap doesnt seem to leak eather. Any thing else i could try? Cheers Doug Quote

Cheers Doug Does the cooling system build up pressure when the engine is cold? (running of course) Checked the exhaust for coolant? Checked the radiator for bubbles? Checked under your oil cap for a milkshake?............mmmmmmm milkshake. Checked your oil for discolouration? cheers phatke30! Edited September 17, 2008 by phatke30 Quote
Trev Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Install a header tank, Make sure you change the cap as the one way cap wont be any good. Quote
DouggehKE30 Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 Install a header tank, Make sure you change the cap as the one way cap wont be any good. 1 Does the cooling system build up pressure when the engine is cold? (running of course)2 Checked the exhaust for coolant? 3 Checked the radiator for bubbles? 4 Checked under your oil cap for a milkshake?............mmmmmmm milkshake. 5 Checked your oil for discolouration? 1 I... don't... know.... Acually now i think about it, It only builds pressure when running hot (no water) 2 Take off the exaust at the manafold to check? 3 open cap and have a looksi for bubles in water? or does that have a diferent meaning? 4 Done this, no milkshake (ohh i do like milkshakes) I don't think it is a head gaskit as i have not found any water in the oil. Header Tank?... please explain. Sorry, it may sound like i know what i am doing, but i don't realy, just guessing and putting in big words. Quote
philbey Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Your water/coolant expands as it heats up under normal operation, and the relief valve in the radiator cap will allow water to pass if the pressure gets too high. Once the water cools, you'll have to top up. Take a look at the end of the overflow line when its hot, you will find water. As mentioned, you can fit an overflow bottle, which allows a "buffer" so that the water passes out into the overflow and is the siphoned back in once the engine cools and the water contracts. they have kits at motor parts stores. Did another look at the oil, seems fine to me. I Have an overflow bottle. (I'm guessing stock) But it doensnt seem to ever get any water in it, Thus i didnt think that this would make a diference, if the water isnt getting out? Thank for the ideas though, might look into one anyway, to make sure its not that. Doug. Quote
