Tally Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Looking at getting my KE25 calipers rebuilt. I wanna keep my 12" rims now lol so I can't upgrade to ke55 brakes as they need 13" wheels. They are seized I assume they would need a rebuild kit thrown at them. So if anyone could recommend a good brake specialists that would be great. Cheers Tally Edited July 2, 2008 by Tally Quote

philbey Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 ECBS in st marys, and there's another one behind the Fire Station on Sth Road St marys, both are good. Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Try it yourself.. it's quite easy to do. if the bore is bad and needs machining get it done by someone but cleaning and building them is quite easy to do! Quote
Tally Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 I would do it man just like I have done everything else on my car but as other people have said, id rather get a specialist to do it right. Quote
Raven Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 And well, they are they only thing that makes your car stop. don't want them failing when you need them the most ;) Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 If you've ever seen a caliper in bits they are extremely simple! an inner seal and a boot! thats it!as long as where the inner seal is perfectly clean you'll be fine! i had a brake specialist show me how to do it! he did one.. i did the other. you use brake fluid and rubber grease mixed together to get the piston to slide in easier. i haven't used the brakes but the specialist watched me do my other one and he said it would be fine! save a bit of money and also have the experience to know you can do it! Tally Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 Yea still don't wanna risk it man. ok just so I know would I get the rebuild kit from sprints, supercheap, repco? Quote
Raven Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I'd pick sprints out of all of those and make sure its a PBR-brand rebuild kit. I wouldnt trust anything else really. Quote
Tally Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) Just got back from getting them checked out. Getting em done by my dads mate. He said rebuild kits are available no probs but he said to cross my finders about the pistons. He called 20 suppliers and only one said he thinks he has some, and he is in sydney. So fingers crossed. PBR no longer make the pistons anymore. The caliper is a japanese brand Sumitomo. PS type (small =O= looking piston body, open disc pad tops with large pad protector) My other KE20 brakes are the F type (small round piston body, closed disc pad cover with viewing hole) and thats probebly why they didnt fit, well they did but they rubbed the rotors. Rotors must be different between KE20 and KE25. So yea hopefully it works out. He is gonna soak em over night and then pull em apart. He said he 'MIGHT' be able to use the pistons again but its very unlikely as they would most likely be pitted from rusting. Ill see what happens. Cheers Tally Edited July 4, 2008 by Tally Quote
Tally Posted July 4, 2008 Author Report Posted July 4, 2008 Well just went up to Power Brakes. He can get the pistons and rebuild kits, and much cheaper then the other places that I got quotes from $54 for each piston and $16 for each rebuild kit. So Most likely get the stuff from him. Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 good prices. i had my clutch master rebuilt by power brakes $70 plus it was an overnight turn around Quote
