Falken_KE30 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Ive noticed there is a few Q's regarding strut upgrades, brakes ect for the KE30-55 rolla's Ive been reading into a decent brake upgrade as i wouldnt mind upgrading from my RA40 ones. This link i have found is very usefully. practically shows you how to Upgrade to Corona Struts, RA60 vented and slotted rotors, and Calipers. CLICKY The Rollaclub FAQ also has a Few options, and some links aswell. FAQ Its a start, If anyone else has some Good links to do with Upgrading Struts/brakes for a KE30 or 55. then please post or PM me and ill add them to this Topic. Try to keep ontopic too please, would like to have a nice healty chunck of Info over a few pages. Link is to a toymods page that list a few Lengths and Balljoint diameter ect LINK Also found a link which shows difference in size of brake for a RA40 to a Standard Corolla one LINK Found a Little bit bout putting XT130 struts into a KE30, info from a User called"ROB" on toymods. "I'm putting XT130 struts into my KE35 and i have found the following 1st. the bolt spacing on the steering knuckle is out by 2mm but the ke30 and XT130 shares the same ball joint so u can get the steering knuckle from the XT130(or RA40) and bolt that to the KE30 ball joint. I have heard people drilling them out so they fit but i wouldnt recommend that. 2nd. the spring seat does not suit the KE30 spring, you can use the XT130 springs, but they will be high (perhaps cut them - not recommended by me, or buy a set of "lows") or weld the KE30 spring seat onto the XT130 struts (i have done this) depending what spring you use will determine what upper spring hat you use and you can use the KE30 strut tops on either spring setup just so u know KE30 and RA40 and XT130 and RT132 lower control arms are all the same as well as the ball joints its just the steering knuckle that the strut bolts onto thats different on the KE30 (possibly so you don't bolt corolla brakes onto celicas or coronas)" Regards Dan :P Edited June 27, 2008 by Falken_KE30 Quote
DearmanKE Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 i think ke70 should be included in peoples thoughts as these have just as measly brakes as ke55's Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 True True, I don't have, or ever owned a E7, so i was showing so light on what i have looked into so far. just thought it would be easy to get all the info in one topic Quote
st.nick Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 That Toymods XT130+MX62+RA60 upgrade sounds the Business!! Why do we cut the spring perches off the strut, and weld on KE ones?? Can I run Corona springs (I'm happy to have a stiff front end)?? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 Hey nick, think it has something to do with the spring being to wide to fit up the strut tower? I'm not sure actually. But I'm going out to the wreckers in a few days and try and pick up some RT132 struts which I'm pretty sure (99.9999%) are the same as XT130 ones but different caliper mounting, wouldnt mind seeing what it takes to bolt the suckers up. Will also look for a XT130 as well, actually. i better google it to see what they look like LOL Quote
DearmanKE Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 was at wreckers today, xt130 struts seam to have hugee wide springs so that could be the reason, so u can run springs athat arnt stupid lol Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) Added links and some info to first post. did have them on this one, but makes i neater all in one spot!! Edited June 27, 2008 by Falken_KE30 Quote
phife Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Commodore calipers with adapter, Magna discs, T18 struts (i assume 86, 70,71 would be similar?) http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=10466 Looking to do something similar with the same setup theory but with 4 pots. Still in the works. Another setup i was going to use was with JDM AE86 vented discs (about $150/pair new) and 83-87 Honda Prelude Calipers (similar to overpriced JDM 86's but cheaper) with little modification to fit. This would of fit under 13's but decided to design a bigger setup. Quote
SeptemberSquall Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 rt132 struts with standard rt132 rotors and twin piston calipers either 1: swap the spring seats to ke30 ones OR 2: wind a custom conical spring to suit RT132 lower pattern and KE30 upper pattern OR 3: best to remove spring seats and replace with 65mm adjustalbe platforms struts can fit a std length koni yellow insert or use sw20 MR2 koni yellow rear shock with shortened housing if going pretty low need to run rt132 or similar steering arms (maybe #A6# celica is similar? or AE86, can use power steering arms for more degrees at the wheel for (x) degrees at the steering wheel) good for street use, this is what i currently run with the ae86 power steer arms (quite short) easily upgradable to 4 piston hilux caliper (ln106 and similar) and vented disc with little effort Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 Thanks for the info guys. Really starting to get some good hard facts. I really like that RT132 with hilux calipers and vented rotors one, thanks SS :P Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 MX62 cressida struts is another upgrade yo can consider. i got these! Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted September 1, 2008 Author Report Posted September 1, 2008 http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.p...x+brake+upgrade there is Two RT132 corona's at my local wrecking yard... might have to grab a set and start building a coilover set for meself! Quote
Corolla1 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 "I'm putting XT130 struts into my KE35 and i have found the following 1st. the bolt spacing on the steering knuckle is out by 2mm but the ke30 and XT130 shares the same ball joint so u can get the steering knuckle from the XT130(or RA40) and bolt that to the KE30 ball joint. Will the XT130 Brakes fit into a 13'' rim? How big are the brake rotors?? How big are the brakes overall?? Does this mod change the spacing of the hub at all?? (like will it bring the wheels outside of guards?) Cheers, Heres a pic of my car (setting it up for rally) Quote
Phonic Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I'm not sure about the single pot XT130 brakes, but the twin pot setup we fitted to a mates KE70 requires at least a 14" wheel to clear the calipers. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 Think it depends on the inner shape of the rims. The stock Rolla rims "curve" on the inside, so the face of the rim hits the caliper. Ive had 2 sets of 13" rims on my RA40 setup.. which apparently needs 14's, i call BULLSHIT!!. Quote
