simsey Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 I got my struts back yesterday, think I've got it right this time. I'm taking my brake rotors in to get skimmed and the calipers checked at Safe R Brakes tomorrow morning. Has anyone ever welded one of those threaded adjustable platforms to the rear spring seat?? Quote
simsey Posted July 9, 2009 Author Report Posted July 9, 2009 Just finished replacing the front and rear crank seals, took the inlet manifold off, ready to have it "cut and shut". Attatched the RWD rear water sensor housing to the back of the head. Also scored this brand new rwd 4age water line from my mate Farzy! Stoked! Here's one of the struts, now that I've moved the threaded sleeve down 60mm, and had the strut tube shortened another 40mm. Also had the brake rotors skimmed. Just bought some brand new TRD shock inserts from ryanfels, thanks buddy. So I should have the front suspension all back together and ready to roll by the end of next week! Quote
simsey Posted July 9, 2009 Author Report Posted July 9, 2009 The TRD shocks I've bought A cool edit I made of the car.. Quote

Intake manifold getting cut and shut right now.. RWD sensor housing been swapped, water lines and water pump outlet done.. Loom is away with my mate from NZEFI being prepared for the conversion, going to be setting up the wiring tonight all ready for the weekend. simsey Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) Got the 4AGE in and all wired up, ready to start up, except for a couple of things we had trouble with. One of the threads on an engine mount bolt hole in the block was f@%ked, so we're getting on to that with a die tap. Also need to get a couple of longer bolts for the new 4A top water inlet housing and modify it slightly, need new radiator hoses, make alternator bracket, and a couple of things I can't think of right now... It's been a long, busy weekend and things didn't quite go as quickly and smoothly as we had hoped, but nothing ever does. So I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.. Hopefully I'll have a start up video to show in a couple of days!!! Nearly finished making the alternator bracket, should have a die tap by tonight which we can use to re cut the bolt hole in the block and get the engine mount on nice and tight. Wiring is %100 complete, all electrics are going, heater, lights, gave the engine quick turn over to check and it's all ok. Also have to modify the top water inlet just a little, then everything is done and we're sweet to go. Just have to put interior back together, fit MR2 seats, new tyres, brake pads & brake fluid, new accelerator cable, attatch speedo cable and clutch cable.. maybe a couple more things but I'm getting damn close! simsey Posted August 27, 2009 Author Report Posted August 27, 2009 I'm thinking about what sort of caster to run for a good responsive steering setup.. Positive? Negative? I've read ALOT, but I'm still pretty new to fully tuning suspension setups as this is the first car I've built up myself. I will be putting in ke30 control arms which are 10mm longer than factory *e7* ones to give myself about 1 deg negative camber. What have you all got on your cars? And what effect does it create? simsey Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Just scored a package I couldn't refuse, from the dark side... A full rwd setup SR20DE with gbox, loom, everything for very, very cheap... :) So the 4AGE, K50, Loom and all is for sale.. My new motor Quote
simsey Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 OK... I don't know why, but good deals seem to keep flying my way... Last night I picked up a complete S14 vvt SR20DE with gearbox and everything still attatched as if it was still running, came from a half cut... Haggled the guy down from $800 (nz$) to $440!!!.. So now I have everything that I needed to find anyway, for my other motor... Got stuck in this weekend, got the engine sitting where it will be mounted on the crossmember. Made our measurements for the mounts, just have to tack them to the xmember and take them to get welded up by a pro.. Here's the S14 SR20DE package as it turned up. Scored a TE71 pedal box to make hydraulic clutch conversion heaps easier.. Swapped my power steering rack for a manual rack.. As you can see the silvia gearbox that came with the motor was very long, couldnt get it to fit without mounting the motor too far forward... So we went on the hunt and picked up a gearbox from an L20 Nissan motor from an R30 Skyline.. Huge difference in size.. The awesome thing is that the L20 box bolted straight up to my SR20 bellhousing... only thing we had to change was swapping one of the main shaft bearings from the silvia box on to the L20 to make it fit the bell... :( Ya can't do an engine swap without getting some serious meat sweats on... And this is how it's sitting at the end of the weekend.. Just another good shot of the car Mounts and hydraulic clutch conversion to be finished this week hopefully.. Quote

simsey Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 that barby almost looks as good as your rolla :) $440 for a sr20de something sounds a little bit sus for my liking It was in a half cut and the guy wanted $800 for the motor and box. But he's a complete g wigger knob jockey that doesn't know shit about cars, so we haggled him down to $440 and we swapped him a couple of ecu's he wanted, he was happy as. 110,000 ks on the motor :( Quote
simsey Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 Well.. Not much to update.. Finished mounting the engine.. Got all the materials for my 2.5" exhaust, should be welding it up tonight / this weekend, with wiring the engine to follow that.. Couple of pics.. Holes we made in the firewall for the hydraulic clutch setup.. Engine all mounted up! 2.5" piping for the zorst.. Quote
