augo Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 Gday looking to buy a 4age with gear box etc what would I expect to pay? Quote
irokin Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 frontcuts can go from $1000-$3000 depending on what model 4A-G(Z)E. 20vs retail for $1900 (automatic FF) Quote
augo Posted January 29, 2005 Author Report Posted January 29, 2005 I have been offered a 4age 16 valve with 5sp box extractors etc rebuilt with computer for $1000 should I grab it? What do I need to look out for, cheers Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 That sounds like a reasonable price if it has been rebuilt. 4AGE extractors alone can set you back $250 so thats about $750 for a rebuilt engine in theory, sounds like it would be perfect for what you want. Quote
Redwarf Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 What are you putting it into? Can you hear the motor running? Why does he want to sell it? Why is he selling so cheap? Does he have receipts? What's it's history? History says that second hand motors are generally not what they're cranked up to be. Buyer beware. Quote
demuire Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 (edited) As a guide, my red top 4AGE was $850 (about a year ago), new belts and seals but otherwise stock. It had engine mounts with it, but no exhaust manifolds. And that was including swapping the inlet manifold around. Late model T50's usually start at about the $150 mark (for a bodgy), a reasonably good clean one usually start at about $250. Edited January 29, 2005 by demuire Quote
augo Posted January 29, 2005 Author Report Posted January 29, 2005 Thanks guys, he reckons its too much trouble to get the car engineered with that motor, he wants to sell all running gear, which is still in car so I can test drive. Got reciepts for total rebuild... sounds a bit too good to be true I reckon! Quote

augo Posted January 29, 2005 Author Report Posted January 29, 2005 think it was a wagon not sure, didnt want to do brakes and tailshafts hoops he said, sounds a bit sus Quote
demuire Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 Yes, it sounds very suss indeed. Quote
augo Posted January 30, 2005 Author Report Posted January 30, 2005 The motor is a rear wheel model from about an 88 sprinter, think it is silver covers with black writing, and sprinter gear box, t50? Good or no good? Quote
irokin Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 Its hard to tell what bottom end you have by just the cam covers. Any 4A-GE should be good unless your planning to do some serious work with it. some light reading. http://www.ae92gts.com/ae92gts_engine_type.html Quote

Good or no good? That is firmly your decision. Do the research, goolge about and make an informed choice. We can advise, you have to decide. Quote
KE70MAN Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 hey guys, can you use the stock 4spd from 1983 Ke70 corolla 4K engine, on a 4age(rwd)? also for the swap all you need to fit is a different crossmember right? cheerz Quote
Medicine_Man Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 4A series engines normally run a T40 (4 Speed) or T50 (5 Speed) gearbox 3K/4K/5K series engines run a K40 (4 Speed) or K50 (5 Speed) gearbox T40/T50 compared to K40/K50 are like apples to oranges, different splines, lengths etc etc. only way you would fit a K series engine to a 4A series engine is with an adaptor that is near impossible to find and yes, you also need to run the A series gearbox x-member..
