KE ping it real Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Has anyone ever seen or heard of anyone converting a 4age to run twin carbs instead? Can it be done? How hard would it be? Cheers - Andrew :lolcry: Quote
Kid-Ae Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Besides the tuning capabilities, why else would you get twin carbs over injection? Quote

I have a pair of twins already and wondering if it would be worthwhile putting them on a 4age for simplification of conversion (and i reckon it would sound pretty damn sweet too lol) Quote
colonel Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Yeah it's been done. Redline make a manifold to suit. Part # 12-23 & 12-22 (From memory) depending on big port or small port. Edited June 20, 2008 by colonel Quote
beerhead Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Been done a fair few times, here's one on our club. Trevs twin carb AE71 Quote
h1_roll4 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 ive got one carbs are alot more responsive then the efi and you don't need to worry about ecu etc. Quote

anastasios Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 although they do need constant tuning when seasons change Quote
philbey Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 If you're smart about the seasonal thing, you can probably get it dialled so you just swap jets over. Mate of mine used to drag race a triple carb 6. He had a set of jets for heathcote and a set of jets for calder (Altitude difference!) Quote
sleepy92 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 what kind of performance do you get, compared to EFI? anyone heard of this being done on a 4AGZE? Quote
Redwarf Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 although they do need constant tuning when seasons change If they're set up properly, you NEVER have to touch them. Had numerous sets of twins. Set and forget. Quote
KE ping it real Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) If they're set up properly, you NEVER have to touch them. Had numerous sets of twins. Set and forget. I do actually have twins running on my 4k at the moment (see my signature) I spent a grand getting them rebuilt and tuned and they run sweeeeet But my potential plan is to rejet and put these carbs on a 4age for several reasons 1. Already spent the coin rebuilding and setting them up 2. More power with the 4a of course 3. Something different 4. Don't need an ecu 5. Would sound farken awesome 6. Tunability As Jono pointed out though, I think i had better make sure that i will be able to register it like this :P Edited June 26, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
Felix Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Running twin carbs on a motor that was originally EFI would most likely make it illegal from an emissions perspective. Probably best to talk to an engineer. Quote

Thats what Jono said to me this arvo aswell so i'll definatly be doing that before i go too far Tis a shame if i can't do it though, I reckon it would be a beast of an engine Quote
