Please try and define what you are flaming me for mate :(? It says NOTHING about engine conversions there does it? And thank you. A standard 16v 4AGE Does not = a Modified Engine that must be approved. If your smart enough, Approved by transport opperations = a mod plate mate, so get your facts right first, then flame me okay bud?

Haha. Okay then Mr.

If you are SMART enough, I wasn't flaming at you. If I was, I would of been down your throat and swearing.

Do as you wish. I really couldn't give two shits :)

Have fun.

Just don't see a need to have high powered cars when your learning.

Damn it chops, you got a good head on your sholders there.

Learn how to drive first before you learn how to drive fast :(

* a turbo-charged or super-charged engine that is not diesel powered

And yet they class the turbo diesel Surf as a sports car, cause its a two door vehicle thats powered by a turbo charged motor.

My insurance company did the same with my Cielo work car... 2 doors... its a sports car. :(

Cheapest insurance Ive ever had was my TA22 celica. $65/yr 3rd party property! Should have heard me go off when they told me my 4 door KE70 would be $160. Pricks!

Go un-noticed, that way we don't have to see you on the news that night.

Well said.

Hilton, doing a bit of reading might not be a bad thing.

(you might learn a bit that way)

There is some valuable info available on this forum, and guys who have

'been there done that' who could be of great use to you.

It's all good and well having a street weapon, but if you don't have the skills to

safely drive it, you will end up as another statistic.

Lets just agree on one thing, half of these laws are ridiculous and are just excuses for lack of driver training.

While on my L plates i could drive anything i wanted V8's turbos and supercharged cars but now i can't. I can't even drive a V6 Aurion standard it exceeds the power to weight ratio of 125kw per tonne by 1.5kw or something. But i can drive a hilux with drum rear breaks and a fixed rear axle and no safety systems what so ever I'm surprised they even put air bags in this thing.

With the new laws, any modifications that require a "modification plate" aren't legal for L or P plate drivers to drive in qld (not sure on other states). I had a smallport 4age in my ae71 & a bucket seat at the beginning of last year and to do it properly (even though the ae71 came stock with the 4ac) queensland transport told me i'd need it mod plated cos the ae71 didn't come out stock with the 4age (plus to make my car as legal as possible i needed the mod plate for the seat). If it had then there was no need for a mod plate (for the engine conversion) and would have still been legal.

Its about the only time i'd really listened to them n i'm glad that i did. The 1st night on the road with my 4age me n a couple of mates headed to springbrook when most of the drifters used to go up there, and not really to our surprise, highway patrol ended up crashing the party. My matte black ae71 was the 1st car that they went over (obviously because of the colour) & 1st thing he said to me was "have u got a mod plate for the seat, and if so where is it?". Mine was in the engine bay like every other car and as soon as i popped the bonnet, he goes" thats not the stock engine, these only come out carbied!" i told him the engine conversion is covered on the plate, same as the seat!

Finally after a licence and rego check he said to us "lucky you have that mod plate otherwise you wouldn't be driving this home tonight, now get the f*** out of here!"

Even though i was on my P's and the new laws weren't out yet, it was still a hassle even for us. All I can say is the choice is up to you whether or not you wish to spend a few hundred of your hard earned $$$'s on fines and the possibility of them suspending your licence and what not or just having a bit of fun in your stock as a rock rolla. i know which i'd preffer.

sorry bout the lengthiness of the "short story".

No, I'm glad you said this. As other people obviously don't know what they have researched before hand.

Engine conversions need a mod plate. Seems some people around here think you can slop anything into everything.

Agreed, the laws unfairly punish those who have done nothing wrong. (yet :(

Unfortunately we get the rough end of the stick because of blokes who do stupid shit on the

street (racing commodores etc). The new laws will mean guys like us wanting to do a few mods to

our cars will be breaking the law and looking at the possibility of fines. This does not seem right to me.

That said, some engine/car choices are not that sensible for young blokes like us learning to drive.

(regardless of whether they are legal on not)
