No, I'm glad you said this. As other people obviously don't know what they have researched before hand.

Engine conversions need a mod plate. Seems some people around here think you can slop anything into everything.

As far as I'm aware, 4age into a ae71(and 4a-c ae86) does not need a plate. As it is the same size toyota engine and just bolts in with no mods, you just need to upgrade brakes and suspension to what the 4age came in.

It all depends on who you ask.

Yeah that's the same thing i thought when i was doing the conversion. With the ae86's they said you didn't need a mod plate because they actually did come factory with a 4age in them, but seen as the ae71's never came out factory with a 4age anywhere in the world (correct me if i'm wrong) they did need one.

Also my mechanic that i went through for my rwc and mod plate were happy with new springs, shocks and brake pads and they passed it 1st go. Queensland transport modifications office also said that i didn't need to upgrade my brakes unless i was exceeding the engine capacity by more than 10%. Even though there is an ridiculous amount of power difference between the 4ac and the 4age (whether its big or smallport) it's not exceeding the engine capacity at all, it's 1.6L vs 1.6L.

But it's always a great idea to work on your brakes and suspension if your putting something more powerful in there compared to the stock 4ac. :P

In Victoria, if the car was not availble in Australia with that engine from the factory you will need to engineer it, regerdless of power, as the car was not designed and tested to that engine.

An Nissan SR220DE is the same size as an L20B and will bolt straight into a 200B without mods... needs to be engineered.

Also another rule in Victoria: ANY increase of factory spec horse power by 10% or more requires a engineered cert.

Christ. I didn't think it was quite that strict down here. Awwww.. i can still fit another 10% horse under my bonnet :P

Wow, I didn't know it was so strict either. I thought QLD was bad enough.

Technically when i put the A12 into my Datsun 1000 (A10 OEM) its an increase of 10.8% horse power (Factory spec) i'll need a cert.... even though the A12 i put in is old and probably has less HP than a new A10... the laws are strict.

Be mindfull, if you drive a vehicle that is outside the guideline of the law and you injure or kill someone, you're not coverd by TAC insurance.

GO SA!!!!

no laws like that down here.

as everyone just said u don't need high power to learn in. i drove a vk executive with an exhaust and being cocky and thinking i knew how to drive i had one to many close calls in that.

everyone was like that though young dumb and full of cum. i look back and cringe at what i used to do.

cheers

Have also heard this.

But, have also been informed by Peter Robinson (Ke rolla mechanic and sales) that a

5k is a legal conversion.

I think this is because it is the same engine series (similar to holden 6s I think).

Although if this is so, it breaks your above said rules :P

Not sure.

xstatic you might not be so ecstatic to hear that you're quite a way off the mark, we have quite a sound set of rules regarding engine swaps in cars in SA, its just that everybody flaunts them.

yeah, but to be fair the're not as harsh than say sum of the other states, and also we don't get the 'can't drive a car with more than 3hp on your l's or p's' law. that said if a copper really wants to be a prick u can usally find sumthing wrong on just about any car. best bet is be a good boy/girl and don't do anything too stupid and you should be right

Not as harsh? You'll get defected a hell of a lot easier in Adelaide than you will in melbourne! And Adelaide defects are harder to get off than Vic ones as well.

lol. i am a week of my p2's and i happily drive around in my stock 4k 5speed. why have all that power when the fastest you generally ever get to do in most town driving is 80. most driving is at 50 and 60 and i can get my car to 50 or 60 just as fast as the guy next to me in his wang bang whatever so whats it matter. if you can drive well you will get ample performance for city driving without and expensive petrol bill, and cop troubles.

whats it matter if your car isn't as fast as a commonwhore or whatever, I'm pretty sure I'm much happier going a bit slower and using about 1/50th of the petrol the commonwhore is using.

Some people like the thrill of going fast, or being able to go fast when they want to.

We all know that saying before, thought not everyone likes to follow the law sometimes. No one here is an angel.

I would prefer to have power under my foot when some little wanker is trying to give me a go. Then to shove it back into his face when a tiny engine just flogged his bigger capacity engine is just a good laugh and maybe a bit of an ego boost.

As much as i agree with you I also try to tell myself .... "OK you beat that f@$ker, but where did it get you?" the answer is simpley "Nowhere"

You beat the guy, you feel good for about 2 minutes and thats it... its over.

BUT if you f@$k up during that spotainious need for victory, the ramifications will last alot longer.

Maybe you get done by the fuzz, maybe you have an accident and have to pay up, maybe you bend your pride and joy around a pole, maybe you hurt yourself or someone else.

The odd of a bad outcome are fewer BUT the stakes are far greater.

By the way I am also telling myself this as i write it... as I too love to crush the ego of wankers in commonwhores that don't realise they have no idea when it comes to cars.

Maybe we get more sensible with age.... :P

The biggest thrill I get out of driving the Silvia on the street is knowing that I COULD beat most of the cars around me if I wanted, but not actually in the doing it. The only time I ever do it is when I've got no other choice (merging lanes etc).

I know when I was younger there was nothing I wanted to do more than show up the guy in the lane next to me so it must be something that comes with age.
