SLO-70Y Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 (edited) Hi everyone, Got over waiting for parts for the 30 so I thought I’d start a thread about my little project that I have had going for awhile. It started with a mate of my brothers getting rid of a 77’ 4 door KE30 and I needed something to spend my money on at the time so I bought it ready for me to start my first real engine conversion/project. Unfortunately I don’t have any picks of it as they were deleted off my old P.C but I’m sure you all know what they look like mine was white had black stockies and way too much rust to be a worth while project so I got rid of that and bought my current Rolla a 75’ 2 door I picked it up off a Rolla club member named bstjunkie for I think $650 was fairly clean with rust in the usual spots a 2 speed toyoglide 3K and a neat interior except for the crack in the dash so a much better car to start off with, plus the fact it’s a two door which is better looking in my opinion. So the conversion started on this one right away with my younger brother and I ripping the old running gear out in a day. And the new motor in the next day as I had already done the engine mounts on the 4 door so It was as easy as swapping over x-members and away it went The motor is a SR20DET out of a 94’ Sil80 with 105K’s on the clock. The motor will be given a full rebuild with forged internals and all the fruit to be able to handle around 250RWKW and a low 11 high ten ¼ mile with any luck. Also a friend and I have started to make an intake plenum for it. For the suspension and brakes I’m running a Hopper Stoppers kit and an asdf coilover setup with Koni adjustable shocks and Cusco camber tops that you can see in those engine bay pics which I had to modify the strut tower because those are meant for an AE86. In hind sight I should of bought TA22 ones but I didn’t and I have to live with it For the rear end I’m running a cut down Hilux diff and soon to be a Tru-Trac LSD with 4.11 gears. That’s all I got for now because my computer keeps dying on me and it takes forever to redo will update more later. Cheers Shaun. Edited November 9, 2008 by SLO-70Y Quote
Davros El Davros Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Dude that will go hard. One of my best friends in Nowra NSW has a really nice KE55 with an SR20DET in it. The thing is a rocket ship. Just make sure you get the engine nice and far back in the engine bay. Looking forward to more updates... Quote

Thanks mate that’s what I have done, its as far back as possible that’s probably why the plenum is hitting the clutch master and have to mount it under dash or something lol. Quote
ROLLLA Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 haha exactly the same taste in rolla and same taste in engine conversion. Ive been waiting ages for someone to start a step by step thread on an sr20det conversion in a ke30. Keep the pix and details coming because I'm in the process of the conversion too. How did you go with tunnel clearance and clutch master? Quote

How did you go with tunnel clearance and clutch master? With the tunnel clearance it wasn’t too much of a hassle as this 30 was an automatic so the tunnel was much bigger than the manual, but still had to do the usual sledge hammer massage in a few spots along the fire wall and tunnel but will smooth it all out when I go to do the body work. The clutch master I’m using is a TA22 hydraulic item it’s the same bore size as the standard SR master. You still have to modify the clutch peddle to use it though. Matt (oh what a Nissan feeling!) was the man who answered that question for me he made a page on it a while ago if you do a search it will show you exactly what you need to do. Cheers Shaun.
