Doogs Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Hey all, I am considering putting some bigger mazda rims on my KE20 (I understand that RX2/3/4/5 and 1300s have the same PCD) of about 13'' or 14'' and then run a tyre with a lower profile, so the total diameter is the same (or within 15mm) of standard diameter. I am considering doing this to improve handling and looks, whilst not putting the speedo out of whack or making the car illegal. So I need to find out which of these selection have the same offset (or close to) my KE20 offset. Thanks, Dougal Quote
Redwarf Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I always used to use RX4 rims with 185/60 tyres. Speedo wasn't out that much, if at all. The centre hole needs a slight file out before fitting to the front, otherwise you can put them on, and nothing short of a small thermo nuclear device will get them off again. I've also used the RWD 626 rims as well. They're all 13 x 5.5 as far as I know. Quote
Doogs Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 Thanks redwarf, good to know. Anyone know about the offsets? Quote
Redwarf Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 No idea, but i know they fit and work well. :D Quote
philbey Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Go see Pete Robinson, he'll flog you a set of those Mazda 13 inch steelies (look in my rides thread, same ones). Or, go around the corner to Allmaz on clayton road, thats where Pete gets his from anyway. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I can second that the rwd 626 rims are a perfect fit, with just enough clearance from the front struts. Quote
Doogs Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Cheers guys, will have a chat to pete about them when I am next down there philbey. Quote
Sim Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 iv got a set of 13" steelies off an 808 ill b putting on my wags soon, 175/65 profile tyres, havn't trial fitted em yet but i can't see what would stop them from fitting up. ill make em fit if they don't lol. Quote
Redwarf Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Don't forget to open up the centre hole..... :D Quote
Sim Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 how much did u need to open them up by? just for the fronts? Quote
Redwarf Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I did all of mine as I swapped them about a fair bit, but you only need it for front clearance. You only need to take minimal material out (maybe a mm?), but you'll know when you try to fit them if you've taklen enough off. You can fit them without taking material off (by doing up the wheel nuts, it ends up being a press fit), but you'll have REAL issues getting them off again. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Don't forget to open up the centre hole.....  yeah they're a bit of fun to get off again if you don't modify them.... :D Have bought the odd KE20 or 2 with Mazda rims just bolted straight on. :D :y: They always had BALD tyres aswell, which is probably why the cars got sold....... Redwarf Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 WARNING: don't try this at home. I got to the point with one car where I loosened of the wheel nuts a bit, and drove around a corner to get them loose! The throwing of spare wheel at stuck wheel method usually works though...... Quote
Sim Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 lol damn, and i thought i did some dodgey stuff :D. nice to know about the wheel centres though, ill keep that in mind! Quote
Ke20 King Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Don't forget to open up the centre hole..... :P lol wish i knew that a few months back when i put the mazda rims on. tryed to take them off the other day but gave up. will try again on the week end but ill use a bit of tough love this time.
