LilSlvrRolla Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Hey, I was wondering if anyone had and good ideas on preventing my rear wheel arches from rusting any further. One idea that was mentioned to me was using Wattyl kill rust underneath. But I have no idea as to how the kill rust and the original paint would go together, or how long that would even last. Is there another option? Or would that be good? Also my rear wheel arches have quite a few holes in them from the rust at the top. I can’t weld but I can certainly bog haha… I was going to grind the inside edge off around the top to allow the tyre clearance inside the arch and then flare the flat bit of the arch out so it goes along with the rest of the curve in the flare. Make sense? And what about the inside panel, bend up, paint and sikaflex??? It’s the foam stuff between the two panels that’s trapped all the moisture making it rust in the first place I guess. Will the seam cause any probs either? Also would bolt on flares be a consideration, just cut out the rusted bit and bolt on? Who makes em? But my main problems are lack of metal and reoccurring rust. Thanks guys, Ethan. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 i had rust coming threw in mine, they had previously just been bogged over and painted very dodgy.. i cut it out and welded a new piece in, then bogged primered and painted. in your case best option is probaly to get a fiberglass repair kit and patch up the holes from the inside? be sure to strip all the oll rusted flakes out with a wire wheel first ofcorse and have a descent surface for bother the bog and the fiberglass to stick to i.e. don't shine up the metal with the wire wheel because stuff wont stick as well to it. its not the ideal way to fix it but it should hold out for a few years if you do it properly. philbey Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Look up rust converter. Chemical converter, strip right back and slap it on then cleanup and prime/paint it Quote

Might have to look into the fibreglass body filler for bits of this one. Yeah a few years would be good out of her :) Quote
