Jonas dc Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Hi everybody, I'll start off with a little introduction. My name is Jonas and I'm from Oudenaarde, Belgium. I'm 18 years and a half and I'm the proud owner of a 79' KE30 corolla. I just finished al the little things that needs to be done and now I'm moving on to the next step... Suspension! As you can see here: http://forum.toyotaclub.be/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2560&st=0&sk=t&sd=a The car still runs on stock springs. I know it's dutch but the pictures speek for itself I guess. Now I don't think the back will be a problem. That's something that i can make by myself but the front is giving me a hard time. Nobody that in my area seems to knwo how to lower the front on an easy way. I would like it to drop 2/3 inches without spending lots of cash. As you can probably see I want te keep it low-budget for now because I'm a student and have to work for everything I buy during the weekends. I'm starting of a new topic because I'm having a hard time understanding al the terms you guys use. I don't always knwo what you mean so please forgive me if I ask lots of questions :lolcry:. To make a it short: I need low-budget Ideas to lower the front end of my car Quote
ke30dude Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Nice looking car you have there. Cheapest and nastiest way to lower the front is to take a cheapo angle grinder to the springs. (not reccomended from my way. Other is finding a set of lowered springs to suit. Quote

I'm intending to keep them so if I want i could put the car back in it's full original glory. Then my question is where I would find those springs because I haven't seen lowering springs for a KE30. I guess I should look for something from another car that will also fit. Maybe find some TA22 struts?? I've read about this in another topic but I don't really know what struts are... I guess eveything from a TA22 is easy to find for me because my uncle drives one and has tonnes of parts for it... Thx so far for the comments! Edited May 27, 2008 by Jonas dc Quote
dfunkt Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Click Here that is a picture of a strut. people say strut to mean everything (spring, hub, strut-tube) Quote
DearmanKE Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 buy some other ke30 springs and cut them, so you have your orginals still or get some ford falcon EA-AU i think front springs and cut them, and put them in not sure if they will actually fit, i know they fit in ke70 struts what is the diameter of the spring and spring seat? Quote
ke30dude Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Do they get ford falcones over seas? lol Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 ive heard the TA22 struts will lower the front a fair drop if they fitted with lowered springs. Ive got RA40 struts in my KE30 2 door atm, unsure of type of springs, but my front seems lower than normal, Nice car btw and welcome to rollaclub too!!! Quote
Jonas dc Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 Click Here that is a picture of a strut. people say strut to mean everything (spring, hub, strut-tube) Ok thx, I'll compare my struts to the ones of a TA22. But I don't think they are the same buy some other ke30 springs and cut them, so you have your orginals still or get some ford falcon EA-AU i think front springs and cut them, and put them in not sure if they will actually fit, i know they fit in ke70 struts what is the diameter of the spring and spring seat? Cuting in struts isn't really my favourite. I guess it's the most cheapest but I don't want my car to wobble like a six-flags rollercoaster Do they get ford falcones over seas? lol Yes you can buy them here but not much, I guess they are all imported Quote

Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) an imported falcon, lol.. The RA40 struts i have bolted straight in as far as i can see, I'm guessing the whole strut, control arm ect was used, try searching this forum for Either TA22, RA40 brake, struts upgrade bit of info http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...p;hl=RA40+strut http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...p;hl=RA40+strut This might be handy too http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=25965 Edited May 28, 2008 by Falken_KE30 Quote

I've only found one for sale (quick look) in belgium . thanks for the links. I'm going to look if this would work: hmm for a ke30, the easier jobby is to use ta22 struts and lower control arms... just gotta swap over the strut tops - child's play, and bolt up the control arms ... I'm doin this soon... its good coz stock corolla vs stock ta22 celica suspension - the celica stuff is seomthing like 30mm lower standard.. so the idea is to get ta22 low king springs and some shocks - and you're ke30 will sit low. tyre shouldn't be much above the guard :( ra40 gear has bigger discs and stuff, but not as low ... hope this helps dyzza I'll let you guys know if it's working but i won't be for this week, kinda busy (Going to the presentation of the new Lexus IS-F saturday :lolcry: ) Thx Quote
dfunkt Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 the TA22 struts are different from the KE30. But they have the same bolt pattern at the top and can be made to fit. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I'm pretty sure the 3rd link mentioned that somewhere, But yeah Dfunkt is right, pretty sure you use the TA22 struts, brakes ect, TA22 LCA's, and use the KE30 top spring hat , sur eit says to weld KE30 lower spring seats onm but also read TA22 springs are same diameter as KE30. coln72 Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Cheapest and easiest is to cut your originals. Ran cut springs in cars for close to 14 years without issues (guess it doesn't make it right but it wasn't going to kill me) and either car was very competitive in motorsports. Have a troll around any car wrecking yards with your standard spring in hand and look for something that is the same diameter but shorter. There a lots of cars in Europe that we have never seen so there's got to be one that will fit. Another option is to reset your original springs to the height that you want. Take them to a spring maker and talk to the guy that actually does that work, not the person behind the counter. They will tell you what is possible and what is not. Word of warning. don't go to low as you will completely stuff its handling. Think 2" should be absolute maximum in my opinion unless it is for show. Quote
