77_Rolla Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 (edited) Does anyone know how to check a heater fan when it is not hooked up to there car. I'm not sure if it the fan is the problem or if it is this spring that the heating wires are hooked up to. Does anyone know what the spring piece is called, and if that could be the problem? I'm working on a 1977 corlla (KE30), with a Aircon in it, but it is not working. cheers :( Edited May 25, 2008 by 77_Rolla Quote
sammo[RL] Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 The sprins are resistors for the fan switch. I think the big one is low speed, then med speed, then no resisitor for full speed. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 Yeah, Its the fan speed resistor, The blower box cools the coils when the fan is spinning, Though after a while they sometimes break and the circuit will go open circuit.. Quote

Medicine_Man Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 Firstly, Have you lost all fan speeds or just one? Does it look like the resistor coils on the fan speed resistor have broken apart? Fan blower motors usually have a 2 pin plug that powers the motor, you can test with 12v. Being quite a few years old it may be low on brushes, put your fan speed resistor back in, turn the switch on and give the back end of the blower motor a tap to see if you can free the brushes. May start working then which is a good indication that the brushes need replacing... Quote

I had bought the car with the fan not at all. but I'll try and tap it to see if it works. Do you know what other toyota uses this fan motor where I can take it out of. thanks for help Quote
