Thats what the oil pressure switch is for..

Nope. The oil pressure switch is for low oil PRESSURE (hence the name)

 

That is a low oil LEVEL switch. My 5K had one. Has a float that goes in the oil. When the oil level get low, the float drops with it and turns a light on.

just wondering, did you run the white/yellow wire from the regulator box to the alternator or did you run a new wire to the alternator? (not using any of the wires in the old loom) I'm in the same pickle,

pretty sure he ran a new wire he said

 

"i ran my own positive wire to the battery and removed the external regulator and now everything is sweet!"
