Jarsky Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Hey Guys, Kind of a noob question (sorry) :S I just realised that my 1971 KE25 has no lights when I put it in reverse, I just wanted to confirm if the old KE25 actually had reverse lights from factory?? I have to take it for cert next week and just need to sort out all the little things to make sure it passes. The old 4 speed box has been replaced with a 5 speed to match up to a 4k, so I believe from research that it must now have a K50 gearbox? If the car does come with factory reverse lights does it mean that the signal line hasn't been connected when the gearbox has been replaced? How simple is this to hookup? Any info/help appreciated! Cheers guys :) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Pretty sure it should have reverse lights, There should be 2 wires go down to the switch, One should have ignition switched power and the other should be the feed for the reverse lights when the contacts are bridged in the switch. (can test by bridging the pins with a piece of wire and the lights should come on). Quote
Jarsky Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 shit...do you think they'll notice if I don't have reverse lights for my cert :S hmm, might take it to a mechanic to have a look at, i'm really not sure what the wires look like that i'm supposed to be after for this Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 It is usually just a 2 pin plug that reaches down towards the gearbox... Quote
cuzzo Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I have got defected in NSW for not having reverse lights working. So i assume that you need them. Quote
Jarsky Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 I have got defected in NSW for not having reverse lights working. So i assume that you need them. I'm unsure if they are infact needed here in NZ, our rules only stipulate you cannot have more than 2....yes we're f*ked up :S Reversing lampsReversing lamps are white rearfacing lamps used to illuminate the area behind the vehicle when it is reversing. Fitting requirements A vehicle may have up to two reversing lamps, which must be wired so that they only operate when either: reverse gear is engaged, or the headlamps are turned off. When purchasing reversing lamps, it is your responsibility to ensure they meet approved standards and are designed for that specific purpose. If in doubt, consult a vehicle lighting retailer. On the road Most reversing lamps operate automatically. However, where reverse lamps operate manually they must only be used when reversing. Quote
philbey Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 its a simple task to fix, and they can be handy at night for reversing, funnily enough. Just trace the wire from the globes and connect that to the switch that will be dangling out your gearbox. My ke10 has them so yes you definitely will have them. Quote
robj Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Firstly, have you checked the globes? Yes, they do have them. The wire from the gearbox goes to NEAR the hole in the firewall where all the other wires go through the firewall. It is on a double (2 of) male/female plug, which goes down the firewall and slightly to the centre of the car, near the brake lines. This plug could have come undone. Quote
Jarsky Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 cheers robj :S i checked the globes earlier this afternoon and they looked fine, all of the rear light cables are taped into 1 bunch of wires, i traced that up to the middle of the trunk where it goes through the firewall - don't see anything unplugged so guess will have to trace it down through the car to the gearbox and check the connections!
