flat out Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 hey guys, i have hooked up my 2" straight threw with one muffler, but I'm looking to upgrade to 2.5" i want it to sound nice and deep and not really raspy like little engine with big exhausts, should i go for a resonator and cannon style thing or a box muffler or something different, i want to achieve a deep note like what you might hear on some skylines and ditch the poo sounding t motor noise buy the way tis is on a turbo 2t motor Quote
WinKE55 Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Add for more cylinders onto the K engine?.. lol. I am also looking for it too so I will be hanging around this thread. I have an older mate who does exhausts and I will try and ask him for you and I next time I see him if you want buddy. Quote

In theory, the turbo should be chopping the raspiness out of your exhaust note, so maybe check to see if all the exhaust fasteners are tight? Mine had one loose and that's where the rattle was coming from... Otherwise, have a look at something similar to what a Rexy has... In theory, you're wanting to make it hard as hell for anything to echo down your piping... lotsa turns and resonators, or just open it up, so it just ebbs out, instead of bouncing down the pipe at speed... (might be struggling to make sense... i should have slept early last night...) Plenty of thoseScoob boys upgrade to straight through exhausts, so could even a STI stocky would be plenty suitable to what you're running, and still look real nice poking out the back... As for mine, I've got a 3in inlet, 6in body, 5in tip sitting at home... I'll be running 2in from the turbo to the cat, then 3in from the cat back... It was originally on my brothers 96 civic, non turbo, and it was awesome, but did get a little raspy towards the 6500rpm mark. Turbo should compensate for that... Quote

At least with the motor being a 2t you wouldn't have to worry about a cat But i wouldn't be ditching the resonator, use a hotdog style of resonator and it'll all depend on what type of muffler and tip you use. corolla_nut Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 The bigger the tip the deeper the note will be. Try and make the exhaust pipe as smooth and direct flowing as possible, mandrel bends are nice :S you will need a resonator and a straight through muffler as well. i'm not a big fan of "cannon" style mufflers, i've seen too many shitboxes with them. you would need two more cylinders to make it sound like a skyline. i don't like how six cylinders sound they are very muddy. i think four cylinders sounds a lot crisper and nicer, but thats just me. the best exhaust system i've seen was on my boss's impreza wrx sti. very smooth and straight, all mandrel bends, high flow cat, resonator and muffler, NOT a cannon... it makes 300kw at the wheels, and it sounds very tough when you get into it... WinKE55 Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 The more HP you have on your engine, the better it will sound. The more cylinders you have on your engine, the better it will sound. I agree with the post above me. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 large diameter pipe! my exhaust has a fairly low note, i have a sports muffeler up front, resonator half way then into 2 1/4 over the diff and out the back. its low but raspy. sounds sick as, turbo would dampen the noise more. if you do get a cannon, get a descent one not a el cheapo $80 one. Xany Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 (edited) Just finished uploading this. My exhaust system, 4 - 1 Extractors --> 2 Inch pipe ---> 15 Inch long 3 inch resonator under the passenger seat ----> Single baffle muffler ----> 3 inch droop tip. Edited May 17, 2008 by Xany Quote
