philbey Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 (edited) Mate whats the total length of those carbies from one end to another? My crude estimate from that picture is about 400mm? You might have a hard time fitting them in if they are too long because the carb may be quite close to the firewall. You could end up needing different length intake runners. I'm very keen to see what you come up with manifold wise! Edited February 21, 2009 by philbey Quote
SLO-030 Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 Hey Tommy, Just read this thread all the eay thru and i have to say that this is a wicked build. And i know what its liek when someone else drives your car resulting in damage :P Just wondering, do you still have that 3spoke strreing wheel that was on there in the begining? CHEERS Ryan Quote

The two end carby's line up with the two end ports so theres plenty of room only trouble now is there is no where on these carby's to connect vaccume hoses from the dizzy???? Quote
philbey Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 Wow that's good. Sounds like they're quite a bit shorter overall than a set of twin dells/webers! Definitely interested to see how you go with this setup! I would say you wont have vacuum ports. I'd just piss off the vac advance anyway and run mechanical advance only. You should be running a better cam to take advantage of your carbs, so if I were you I'd get the dizzy recurved to suit the new cam and no vac advance. Quote

Yeah thanks philbey will be using mechanical advance to over come that problem didnt get the manifold cut out over the weekend so hopefuly tomorrow it will get done so we can work the rest of it out. Felix Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Why not make a vacuum connection across all the manifold runners. Like a vacuum plenum type thing, and feed that to the dizzy vacuum advance. Vacuum advance gives better part throttle drivability and added fuel economy. Cool little car you've got there. Good effort. :) Quote
philbey Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 True felix, but I figured running quad carbs he wasn't really focusing on those two aspects, haha! Quote

TOMMYS Ke 11 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Report Posted February 26, 2009 Hey guys got the manifold plate cut out and also a few spares, we have spaced the centre of the carbys out to even them out on the inlet ports so that all four inlet tubes can be made the same lenght (this should save a lot of stuffing around). Will be running four chrome 54mm pods. Dad's realized with modified sump we wont be able to get the motor in with it on is there much trouble in fitting the sump up from underneath(believe philbey you had this problem??? and was able to over come it) More progress and pics to come hopefuly all finished by next week getting the radiator tripple cored, and my cousin who is an auto elec is building me a bigger alternator(between 80-120 amp). Also in the process of building a alliuminum centre console to fit 5 inch tacho and 2 inch oil temp/pressure, amp, water temp gauges(what is best to use mechanical or electrical???) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Deffinately go for electric guages. Maybe a little more expensive but worth it. Some mechanical guages are actaually illegal for some forms of motor sport. Reckon you'll have fun trying to fit the sump the way you mentioned. I reckon you be better off fitting the GB, then dropping just the motor in (bonnet off) with the sump on. Quote
philbey Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Yeh I pulled the sump out of mine and put it back in. Just undo the nuts on the engine mounts and you can jack the motor enough if you have to. Your biggest challenge is getting to the nuts above your sump extension - The easiest way for me was with a long extender on a ratchet from underneath, you won't be able to do that though. Quote

TOMMYS Ke 11 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 (edited) Hey guys here are some more photos of the motor build the manifold has been built for the carbies and they are now fitted up :D . Have bought all new gauges and also 10 mm top gun ignition leads an also a pro comp electronic fuel pump and regulator :D . The radiator has been tripple cored and dad built a new bracket to hold the thermo fan rather then going through the radiator.Dump pipe on the extractors is for travel purposes only to get it to town to get the exhaust done(will be a noisy 11kms).Hopefuly all going well with the long weekend it should be all fitted up and ready to be dynoed tuned later in the week will put results up once done. Edited March 6, 2009 by TOMMYS Ke 11 Quote
