Testicular Sound Express (TSE) so that way we could be introduced as something when we played lol-crying.gif Oh yeah, may or may not have been inspired by Family Guy. Sounds fascinating to a fellow FAmily Guy fan - tell us more!! And Raven: That's great - metal is not my life but I love A LOT of it!! Big fan of necrophagist, meshuggah, dillinger, sikth, etc. Go the Soulfly too!! I think I might have seen you with Recrimination - I used to play in a band called Priapism and I think we went to one of your shows just drinking one night...maybe And yeah PM me and we can swap msn or hotmail or whatever - I too have many dodgy and some not-so-dodgy recordings of stuff I've done at home and in the studio... soyboy: Did Grade 8 piano and played trumpet for about 5 years... Half a jazz band on your own!! canna: awesome - how old are you? What are your influences etc? Ever considered joining a band - usually know plenty of people in Adelaide looking! anastasios: i was in an 800 piece marching band that performed at the world university games in beiijing and also on the great wall of china, we did things like anzac day, easter show etc was real good music Wow what an incredible experience! 800 people - that is a relatively large band by mot standards  Well done! I'm seeing Soilwork there and then Children of Bodom in June  Just saw Evenflow & Alice Unchained on the Saturday night just gone and that was pretty awesome, so no, I'm not strictly a metal head, but it makes up 90% of my musical interest :POSTPICS!: Quote
bLinded_ Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 I'm seeing Soilwork there and then Children of Bodom in June Ahhhh damn. So jealous right about now :POSTPICS!: Hope they are both f@$king awesome  Quote
Raven Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 I've seen Soilwork before with Killswitch Engage and that was cool, but havent seen Bodom yet, but looking forward to it :POSTPICS!: Quote
TOM Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Yeah Killswitch are very cool! Raven I too will be at Dillinger - perhaps we could catch up for a beer and swings our fists around like someone trying to start a lwanmower together!! haha For those unaware of this phenomenon, it involves metal (and what some idiots like to think is metal) and young males, usually in adidas tracksuit pants and wife-beaters. When alone in the mosh pit, they create space by flailing their limbs about the place in what may seem like an unco-ordinated flurry of excitement... This is, however, something these boys take very seriously. At is not uncommon to see groups of them congregate and "own" a good proportion of the mosh pit - anyone else is too scared to come within metres of these iditos as their movements are as unpredictable as a European wasp you just threw a rock at. In some instances, they can run around in a large circle up to 20-50 metres in diameter, kicking and punching the air with what seems to be a mutual respect type thing that "if you get hit in the face and I break your nose and you fall to the ground unconscious and swallow your own tounge whilst someone jumps on your head completely obvlivious as they are pissed, stoned and exhuasted from the heat and sweat and thinking you're fracturing ribs are just a pile of empty drink containers, it's your own fault!" It can, of course, start fights and scuffles with people like me who get hit and push them in the other direction - away from the stage!@! I actually got concussed by one wanker at the last dillinger show when he was trying to crowdsurf and rock out and scream lyrics at the same time and kicked me square in the head! Got home and found a nice black shoe-print on my bloody head!! For those unaware this is the Dillinger Escape Plan, 4-piece insane hardcore/metal although much more synthesised and electronic thesedays Anyway it should be very good - new album isn't quite as good as I had hoped but....it's dillinger...and maybe he will let me scream intio the microphone again!! Gspec Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Gspec: Far out - super cool! Our bass player is jazz trained and I love jazz - great stuff man! What kind of band/music? What sort of setup you using? Keep it up - jazz drumming will teach you how to travel through time itself! For sure. For any drummer serious about their craft, jazz is the Holy Grail... And its mostly guitarist free!!! :POSTPICS!: Here's on of my babies  Quote
Raven Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I wont be going to Dillinger unfortunately. I have Soilwork on the Saturday :POSTPICS!: Quote
Doogs Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Have played guitar since grade 4 and have been in a few bands since then. Currently am in a band with a few mates called; "Mr Grasshopper and the butterflies" (bass players idea, don't ask) We have been together 2 or 3 years now but don't take it very seriously and are not that good, but have a bit of fun. I like to think i have a fairly diverse music taste, but i don't have a great appreciation for techno. Quote

fozz Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 i play guitar but not very well only learnt tabs and a little bit of chords and notes Quote
Murd 55 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 i was learning drums from year 8-11. i had some difficulty as i was always required to play a right hand set up and was left handed so i struggled with rolls ect. but i eventually got the hang. i just played with hands uncrossed so i looked pretty silly :S i eventually stopped with schooling not really leaving much time for a music class and also the passing of my music teacher. i learnt alot and still have a hit everynow and then as i have my kit still. also started tryin to learn keyboard. got very lost. the whole reading music was very odd to me. :) drum music is simple and uncomplicated. and i always did suck at theory :) Quote
Gspec Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 i had some difficulty as i was always required to play a right hand set up and was left handed so i struggled with rolls ect. but i eventually got the hang. i just played with hands uncrossed so i looked pretty silly :) Open handed playing is awesome. Sure it may make rolls interesting but it also gives you an advantage with off beat grooves and hats work. PLUS you're leading with your creative side, where as righties lead with their mathmatic side. open handed rocks... check this freak out... ... notice that his hats are low, this aids open handed playing :S Quote
bLinded_ Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Mike Portnoy = Drum Freak. The shiz that man can do on drums is freaking nuts. :S Quote
