KE ping it real Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 I wouldn't say every couple of months, Mabey 6-12 months.. Dellortos or any twincarb need to be kept in balance.. I noticed in your signature that you have twin dellortos Do you adjust these yourself? If so is it difficult? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 As much as I would like to be able to tune them myself, It is my only car and I can't afford to have it off the road. I had mine tuned by Recarb @ Kawana (Sunshine Coast). Really need to have individual vacuum ports in the intake manifold so I could balance them myself (Makes it a shitload easier to tune them with a vacuum guage). O2 sensor/guage would help tune the fuel, In the next carnation of my motor I want to have 4 x 02 bosses in the extractors so I can start learning to tune it... Quote

All that sounds like it would definatly be out of my league I'll wait to hear what my mate says and if it is the carbs (i suspect it is) then i'll have to bite the bullet and find a good carb place in Sydney Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) Well the diagnosis is in ITS THE CARBS!!! Apparantly the carbs are putting way too much fuel in and fouling up the plugs ridiculously fast So i can drive it providing thst i clean the plugs every time I now have to find a good carb place and get them tuned and probably run a kit through them as the look pretty old Thanks for all your input guys, it was really helpful when diagnosing the issue. I posted another topic about trying to find a carby place but if anyone knows of a good one in Sydney, then please let me know BTW the bloke that came to diagnose my car now drives a overrated T-18 (no rust, interior perfect full instrument dash, it is f#$king awesome) and he said when he is ready to sell it that i will be first on the list to buy I took some photos of it and will post them in due course Edited May 3, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 Check this beast out - hopefully it will be a second project down the track Tell me what you think Quote
trd Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 have you tried cleaning the jets. in the centre of the carby you'll see a plastic thing held down by 2 scews, unscrew it & the jets are under that. the 2 small ones are the idle jets, the other 2 are the emulsion tubes & they have the main jets on the bottom of them. the main jets just pull off. blow them out & check all the holes on the elmusion tubes aren't blocked. if that dosen't fix it then you will have to pull the carbs off. on the bottom of the carb is a plate (in the centre, held on with 4 bolts, has arm for accerator) remove the plate & check closely for any crap - this is where the main jet picks up the fuel from. with a old carb some crap can get in there & block the holes for the main jets. dellortos are a very easy carb to work on & not much goes wrong. if you do remove them from the engine there is special way they have to be bolted back on & you will need to rebalance them - not hard to do at all. hope this helps Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 Well the carbs have been pulled apart now to discover that they are still jetted for a 2lt alfa So no wonder they were flooding the 1.3lt Whoever hooked these up before definately took the shortcut route and its almost costing me $1000 to get them sorted Oh well it's only money  Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Well worth it once you get them set up right though, Mine cost me a bit to get set up and I never regret doing it.. Quote
DearmanKE Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 if you just had the 1 carb it would be simple, leen it off a little at a time and rev it, if it lags it would be ritch and if it stals after you rev it its too leen. when set well (if you just had 1 carb) the reaction time would be good and it would idle well, as for a dubble set up i would think to maybe diss conect the link raill ant set 1 at a time. or does this dubble your fuel so as its too ritch? i hate twins for this only.. for the others who read this and have 1 carby, when you take it for a spin, have a flat head on the seat cos if it does cut out you can ritchen it up to get you home. happened too me lots haha. so if i free rev out my car(neutral) and it pops abit above 4000 rpm could my mixture be abit rich it also is fairly slow for revs to drop, not heaps but slower than other cars ive driven Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 Well worth it once you get them set up right though, Mine cost me a bit to get set up and I never regret doing it.. I happened to stumble across a you tube vid of your engine - It sounded f#&king awesome It was partly what inspired me to keep pressing on with the twins rather than take the easy way out and put a single weber on instead BTW i noticed you didn't have a radiator shroud on, is there any advantage to this? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I have a radiator shroud now, Never did at that stage.. Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 Well they are finally fixed and running properly :lolcry: After an 8hr wait at the mechanic today from 1pm onwards i finally have the beast back and running like a champ Lots of time and money but well worth it  Thanks to everyone who posted helpful information Cheers - Andrew Quote
