KE ping it real Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 I just took my rolla out for a spin and after driving for about 10 mins, I noticed than when i put my foot down the engine bogged down and through the rev range it seemed to cough & splutter The other thing i noticed was that it had trouble revving past about 5000rpm(didn't seem to want to rev out) I think it has something to do with the carbs (twin dellortos) But i'm really not sure Has anyone come across this and how can i fix? KE ping it real Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) Timing? carbs could be out of balance? Is that something that would happen all of a sudden? When i drove it yesterday it seemed fine Edited May 1, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Could also be a lack of fuel.. Anything could happen all of a sudden, Are you trying to diagnose the problem or do you just want to guess? Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) I'm trying to see if it's something i can fix myself or if i need to take it to someone I'm by no means a mehcanic(i mean mechanic) but if its something i can adjust or check myself then i'll have a go All i know is that it was perhaps running a bit rich yesterday but still running well and now it seems to have dramatically deteriorated If i slow roll the throttle then it revs ok but if i floor it then it struggles but it wasn't doing this yesterday Edited May 1, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Get a timing light on it and eliminate the timing first, Check your fuel filter isn't blocked, After that it pretty much comes back to an issue somewhere with the carbs (balance/mixtures etc). Quote

No worries Medicine Man Thanks for your help - I've got a mate with a timing light so i'll check that tomorrow an i'll check the fuel filter tonight If all else fails i'll send it off to get the carbies sorted Cheers Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) Well its definitly not the fuel filter But the problem seems to be getting even worse I'ts just about undriveable now, after testing the new fuel filter (i had one lying around) i was lucky to get it back up the driveway I guess it must be the carbs or the timing:bash: Edited May 1, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
[email protected] Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 if you just had the 1 carb it would be simple, leen it off a little at a time and rev it, if it lags it would be ritch and if it stals after you rev it its too leen. when set well (if you just had 1 carb) the reaction time would be good and it would idle well, as for a dubble set up i would think to maybe diss conect the link raill ant set 1 at a time. or does this dubble your fuel so as its too ritch? i hate twins for this only.. for the others who read this and have 1 carby, when you take it for a spin, have a flat head on the seat cos if it does cut out you can ritchen it up to get you home. happened too me lots haha. Gavclassic Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Check you points in the dizzy, they could have closed up! Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 Check you points in the dizzy, they could have closed up! Electronic ignition in it but i just git a new dizzy cap as the old coil lead had fused to the cap and when i changed engines over i had to change the coil lead due to the distance from the dizzy Went to pull it off and then snap So new dizzi cap aswell Quote

philbey Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 could be accelerator pump - even though I own a set, I can't remember if/what the dellorto one is like. Acc pumps have a check valve in them, to stop fuel in the pump valve running back to the bowl when you gas it. This busted, and it meant every time I put my foot down it went back to the bowl, leaning out every time I accelerated. Gives similar symptoms: still driveable but not if you gas it. SHOULDN'T deteriorate over time, though, so it may be something different. Quote
KE ping it real Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 (edited) I've got a mechanic mate coming over to look at it and give me his diagnosis and maybe he can fix it Fingers crossed However i spoke to another mate today and he seems to think that the carbs have just gone out of tune and reckons they will need to be adjusted/tuned every couple of months Is this common/true? Edited May 2, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I wouldn't say every couple of months, Mabey 6-12 months.. Dellortos or any twincarb need to be kept in balance.. Quote
