Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 (edited) That's brilliant......... I love the idea of having extra people over the rear for better traction....... MOAR! That is all. :lolcry: Edited April 28, 2008 by Toy-Yoda Quote
towe001 Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 All you need is a tarp, some vasoline and a couple of lengths of pipe Quote
7shades Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Hehehe I know where that is :rocknroll: Its the Wenlock river. Right in the middle of deepest 'darkest' cape york... At most of the deepish river crossings there are usually some friendly native types waiting nearby with a front end loader or similarly heavy yellow earthmoving machine, ready and willing to drag drowned city folks and their Pajeros out once they drown the engine. For a nominal fee, of course. :jamie: Quote
Clapped out Posted April 30, 2008 Author Report Posted April 30, 2008 How pissed of would you be lineing up and worrying about the water depth when these guys rock up in their (lets say $100) car and show every one off, i would be, he he, and jarrod, thats so true, who else would be able to pull you out if you got stuck in the middle of that river? i'd be charging $200/10 mins, cheers phatke30! SLO-030 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 but they don't show the rest of the fotos where they get to the other side, leave the car, car rolls backwards and sinks in river. CHEERS Ryan Quote
7shades Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 and jarrod, thats so true, who else would be able to pull you out if you got stuck in the middle of that river? i'd be charging $200/10 mins, Thats about the going rate actually. Cash or booze. You should see how fast the f@$kers can strip a drowned Cruiser... Moral of the story: NEVER do a cape york trip without at least one other recovery vehicle, and never leave it parked anywhere if something breaks. Even if ALL the wheels were to fall off, chuck the tow vehicle in low range and skull drag it to somewhere you can get it fixed. I love it up there... its one of Australia's last true 'frontier' areas... No mobile phone, no RACQ, no ambulance, no tow truck, no police, no speed limits... no rediculous laws designed to insulate the stupid... Just common sense and a CODAN radio if you get into trouble. Oh and really, REALLY big fish. :rocknroll: Quote
Clapped out Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 ^^^^^^Yeah i could imagine, i've been told stories along those lines, the black market in car parts up there must be a roaring trade..................................that is to city folk that break down! :rocknroll: Quote
7shades Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Dude.. you can buy a Hilux or Cruiser from a caryard in Cairns, drive it north, sell it, and pocket a lazy 5 grand for your time. Only Toyotas though... nothing else lasts up there and what few workshops there are only have common Toyota parts on the shelf. Up until recently when the grog bans started, a few enterprising fellas had a good system going. Goes like this. You find some capital, and buy yourself two LN106 Hilux Dual Cab 4x4s. You then fill both tubs with cartons o booze (usually VB or XXXX) Head north.... with backup vehicle Sell booze and Hiluxes at ludicrously inflated prices Take your huge wad of cash, and head south again... smug in the knowledge that you have just recovered a sizable amount of the tax you've been paying for the last umpteen years that has been going straight into these peoples pockets every week On the way back to Cairns, drop in at *undisclosed location* and purchase a sizeable quantity of *undisclosed, but highly desirable contraband flora* for 'personal use only', officer... Sell said flora to local bikies. It was called the milk run... and people have bought houses with cash by doing it a few times over the course of a year. Quote
