ae174agze Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 man turbo blankets can catch on fire take it off and look for burning and the more heat you retain in your exhaust manifold and turbo the better the hotter it is the better the exhaust gas flow or some shit like that if it takes longer to cool down that’s better so you don’t stress the stainless steel as well i reckon get some of that exhaust rap too Quote
Pure-SX Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 Turbo blankets smoke the first time you take it for a drive/idle it up to temp. It doesnt smoke The water/coolant temp is up abit, with the turbo blanket on it is squeezed between the exhaust housing and radiator where as without the blanket there is a little gap between, was getting water temps of 90degress last night cruising at 80k's, will go for a drive tonight and see if there is any difference. Pure-SX Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Water that is pressurised has a higher boiling point. Quote
wasfishing Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 then I'm guessing ur car get hotter than that as its alwayz boiling the water... just as a precortion i would change the thermostat incase its not opening properly or relocate ur engine to the boot Quote
ancullen Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) shit doesnt water boil at 100Degrees? that mite put alot of pressure on gaskets ect Water that is pressurised has a higher boiling point. Pure water boils at 100 degrees Celsius at atmospheric pressure. With the coolant that is added and the fact that the radiator fluid is pressurized, the boiling point is increased, not sure as to how high though - got a funny feeling it may be as high as 130 degrees Celsius. Good on ya Adam for your 4th place as well Thanks! As a result of the third in class, the Starlet has now achieved first, second, and third both in class and outright over the five years it has been entered in the Rejex. :P: Edited August 5, 2008 by ancullen Quote
Pure-SX Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Yeah I believe it is around 130 as well. Runs pretty ok with the blanket off. Will in time sort something out to make it run cooler, will get a thermo mounted grill side as well Quote
