Felix Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 i'm not sure about the rods. myself, i have a couple of sets of late dished 4k rods (from jap import engines), but they are not quite as thick across the beam as the set of 5k rods i have. download the ACL piston catalog....... Quote
Redwarf Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) Yes, you can fit a 4K crank into a 3K. Yes you can run the longer rods. Yes you can use Charade pistons with modification so all this fits together. Counter boring the head slightly also helps. 4K crank does bolt in, but clearance work is required. The pistons I run (and I can't remember the size, 78mm maybe?) makes the 3K engine 1359.9 cc. Not an easy job, and no one likes a cheater. Edited January 19, 2006 by Redwarf Quote
untubbed_20 Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 (edited) I will go against the grain and say the 4k starlet injection manifold is a wonderful thing for turbocharging, The plenum is a bit small though and makes it hard to work on a motor, especially in a ke10. It makes a lot of torque which spools a turbo quicker and the fact that it will kill top end power a bit doesn't matter on a turbo car as most Turbo K motors peak power is only around 6000 rpm. cheers darren Edited February 26, 2006 by untubbed_20 Quote
blown 5k Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 there was 2 rods in a 4k and only 1 in a 5k.found this out the hard way when i lived in NZ. all the 4k commercials had the heavy rods. dished piston or flat tops, it didn't matter. Not all late 4k's (family cars) have the heavy rod, but all 5k's do. and you're right, order a rod from toyota and you'll get a heavy rod. Matt Dunn, that would be Allan Dunn's boy? also the the light rod was good for 8 grand and the heavy was good for 10 grand.(that came from Warren Burt). Well i beg to differ about there only being 1 set of rods for 5ks i pulled an early 5k engine to bits and it had the light rods. As for trusting what Burtie says good luck with that one :) Quote
rolla80 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 ok so from what i understand here is that 4k-e pistons and rods are the same as 1g pistons and rods. YESS??? and do they just slide straight in or do i have to mod them up?? Quote
