Both the Falcon aka Fail-Con andf the Commodoore aka Commonwhore are proud-worthy cars.... sure you get a few lemons and sure some look down right ugly (mostly Fords) but seriously the cars we're producing at the moment run rings around that shite that America is trying to sell us.

America, yes.

The rest of the world, noooo.

Dollar for dollar our cars are on par, if not better than, most europian cars for quility and saftey..... though once again the Japs do it best.

Dollar for dollar, less adjustment for the ridiculous import duties and levies placed on imported cars to protect out substandard local product? I think not.

Line up a VE Omega or BF next to its european equivalent, a 5-series beemer or E-class Merc... I know which one I'd pick.

And the rest... Volvo, Audi, VW... all light years ahead in technology, quality and refinement, not to mention a much more rewarding drive... and only regarded as "Prestige Vehicles" in our quiet little antipodean backwater because the government taxes the snot out of them to keep our lumbering hulk of a motor industry afloat.

Furthermore, the Japs do NOT do it best, they do it the most efficiently and cost effectively.

Thank you for agreeing with me and making all the points to prove me right.

"Minus the import duites"... fact is, you can't it without import duties and levies... so therefore it is cheaper. And even in Europe, their parts are far more exspensive than Aussie and Jap cars.

"put a VE omega or a BF up next to the equivelant merc or beamer"... once agian my point... sure the HIGH END beamer and merc may be better but DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR it aint even close... both the Merc E and series 5 BMW are way more exspensive to buy, service and repair. Lets take my fully optioned XR6 turbo... costs less than $60 grand.... for that you will not get anything nearly as good with a BMW or a Merc... actually for that you get an entry level series 1 130i which is no where nearly as well built as the XR6, or as fast or as safe.... or designed for our conditions.

Dollar for dollar you get more from ford and holden....Shop around, do your home work, learn the facts.

"the are not the best, only the most effecient and cost effective"... you just crontadict yourself. Sure a Fararri Enzo is better... but once again dollar for dollar, you get more from Japs cars that european cars.

Europe do make the most refined cars, but for what it costs to by a higly optioned Ford Holden Nissan, Toyota... etc... you wont get a higly refined European car.

I build luxury cars for a living, I get to drive all sorts of cars and yeah sure the Mercs and BMW do drive alittle nicer but they cost 3 to 5 time more to buy BUT they don't drive 3 to 5 time nicer.

Straight up a practical man will buy a Ford/Holden... a poonsy noised toffer would preffer the STATUS Vehicle.

amen to that, brother

We build cars for our terrain, and in terms of pricing/features, Australian built is the way to go. Jap's do it well, too :jamie:

Righto.

Can I offer you one small piece of advice....

Travel.

YES! of corse... how stupid of me...

if i travel, when i get back, somehow high end Eurpean cars will be more affordable and better suited to Australian conditions

Straight up we're talking about vehicles that are avaialable in the country we live in, therefore Fords/Holdens and Jap cars are still the best buy for money from where we are sitting RIGHT NOW.

Ha, Ford owns renno and renno owns nissan haha.

No they don't. Nissan and Renault have an alliance, but there is no ownership link to Ford whatsoever. There was some badge engineering going on between Ford and Nissan back in the 80s and 90s partly due to the Button Plan (Maverick/Patrol, Corsair/Pintara), but one didn't own the other, just how there is no ownership link between Toyota and Holden yet they released re-badged versions of each others cars under the Button Plan (Commodore/Lexcen, Apollo/Camry, Nova/Corolla)

You're right about Japanese product, thats why most of my fleet are Toyotas.

But, my point regarding the local product was, the government's policy of insulating and supporting the domestic industry has ultimately betrayed it. Whilst the rest of the world has pushed ahead with new technologies and refinements, our manufacturers sit back on their laurels with the 'why try harder' mindset, re-assured in the knowledge that everything will be fine as long as the fleet sales don't falter.

Take GMH for example: The central focus of the release campaign for the 'new' commodore was "We've spent a BILLION dollars developing it... so it must be good."

Bulltwangers.

For example, BMW spent four times that on the last 3 series, and will do so again in another year or two with the next one, instead of just recycling the same 20 year old platform with a 30 year old engine, and whacking new headlights on it.

All the flashy marketing, commercial sponsorships, the farce that is the V8 Supertaxis... have all been spectacularly effective at maintaining generations of brand loyalty and consistent sales. But unfortunately for them, try as they might, you can't stop the tide of globalisation. The consumer is becoming more jaded and less influenced by marketing and is seeing through all the bullshit and psuedo-patriotic waffle.

Falcodore sales are falling... rapidly. Instead of pre-empting the wave of change, our boys have tried to hold it back, and failed. The market is changing faster than they are able to keep up. Shortsightedness and greed has left them without product to fill the gaps, so people are looking elsewhere...

The imports are going great guns... and for good reason. The aussie dollar is doing well, and as such, imports are becoming a much more viable option for more people.

By the way, what exactly are Australian conditions? To the best of my knowledge, the only 'Australianised' features on our local gear is brighter headlights and better AM radio reception. Whoop.

Any car sold through a dealer network in this country, Jap, euro or otherwise, has been set to 'Australian' conditions. Spring and shock rates are revised, tyres are different, etc etc.

In fact, many manufacturers around the world use the AU for their benchmark testing.

Meh I'm over this epenis nonsense....

Many great points there, most of which hold excellent merrit... Sure BMW's development runs rings around everything Australian, sure Ford/Holden are trying to hold back the tide of globalisation, sure Ford and Holdens main point of sale is marketing... and so on...though, non of which discredit the fact that if i give you $50 grand you could not get a new Merc or BMW with the same featured/options as a FORD or Holden AND you are still going to pay more for service and parts.... BUT most of all none of what you said discredits Ford and Holden as being good cars.. just not as good as cars that cost a shit load more.

Australian conditions are from cold to EXTREMELY hot. Regardless of what cars the europians benchmark there cars on, they don't design and test their cars soley in and for Australia.

Yet after all this gibba gabba about trivial tangents and epenises, Australian cars are still good cars and are quite proud worthy.

:y:

BUT most importantly, this thread is designed to bag Hummers!

Amen to that my friend!

Who ever designed the intricacies of these things should never be alowed near their crayons again.

IF you think they are bad to drive, try removing the dash.

And for all that money you get FAKE leather seats.

Yet, like mindless sheep, people are so impressed by these hunks of shite.... i fail to see why.

I have an 8" cock.

Thats one small rooster you have there... are you sure its not a pigeon?
