I'm also doing a simular theme on my current mk1 escort project and my ke10 in the shed will

also get the same treatment.

Scotty, you're only going matte finish because you're too lazy to do the body work! haha.

Charl, top job. Good to see you're getting into it with gusto!

If you are going to get it done properly, consider painting a regular paintjob and then hitting it with a flattening clear - paintjobs done like this look much more consistent and they have more depth to the colour!

But keep it up and plenty of regular updates!

I'd steer away from flat black as it is porous, looks cheap and doesn't last well.

You'll find that the rodders paint their cars in satin black which has a slight sheen and looks much better.

yo charl dude

I sold ya the front apron for ya KE20.

Just wanted to say that your KE20 is looking bloody wild and can't wait to see it all done!!!

keep up the good work!!!

Cheers

Tally

Hey Tally, yeah i remember you. thanks for the front apron and the positive comments!!

can i ask what kind of paint you used?? what brand of can etc.. my ke30 is in primer need it painted fast.

car looks F*&Ken sweet man.. top job

Would a pressure hose when washing do any damage to the paint casue its just a can job??

cheers man

i used killrust matte black paint! thanks alot for your support corolln. I'm not sure what the pressure hose will do to this paintjob, but I'm buying some normal matte black paint and covering it with a satin clearcoat. but this wont be getting done anytime soon. ive got to get the funds together first!!

I think my wife would kill me if I asked her to do that! Looking awesome!!

lol! my partner loves doing craft stuff so this was a way for me to get her involved!! she is in the process of making me a new roof lining as well and shes going to recover my doortrims and some other bits and pieces! she is really great! the funny thing is now its gone from, "Your crappy car in the driveway" to "our little car"..... go figure!

Felix, thanks for the advice. ill make sure that when it comes to painting the car properly i will remember that!

and yeah, its definitely getting some pinstriping done on the bonet and boot lid!

and to think, i almost gave up on it and now I'm working harder than ever to finish it!!

thanks for all the feedback,

Agree with the Satin black. My guitar is Satin black and has a a slight gloss look to it

Could always sand it back a little and throw a coat of satin black over it :jamie:

well its as i suspected., the wiring in the front of the car does not work.

so if anyone can point me in the direction of a ke20 wiring diagram i would be very appreciated.

hey charl,

what exactly dosent work???

does it have a fuse box?

is the battery new or in good condition? make sure your playing with 12V 1st.

check your earths, theres only 3 or 4 of them.

do some basic tests, u shouldnt have to go lookin at diagrams striaght away.

cheers, scott

its the headlights and the parker/ indicators under the bumper that don't work. the battery is brand new, the car runs and drives, all the dash lights work, the rear lights work, except for the reverse lights but i think its because the motor and gearbox arent original and they might not have connected the reverse sensor. (breaks, indicators)and the indicators on the front quarters work, i checked the fuses and theyre all ok. there are some wires that don't go anywhere and i think they are meant to which is why I'm thinking i need a wiring diagram.....

PLEASE HELP!!! :hmm:

i was just curious to see if it did have a different engine and gearbox and I'm pleased to announce::

ITS A 5K MOTOR AND THE GEARBOX IS A 5 SPEED OUT OF A KE55. AND IT HAS EXTRACTORS

NICE!

but on the downside there is no ehaust system, you should hear it running with just the extractors though,.... if only.....

so, would this be a legal setup?

thats the exhaust system on Daim's T70:

(just by the way, i knew it had extractors and a 5 speed already just didnt know it was not original, just thought youd like to know too! :hmm: )

Highly unlikely as it is pretty much straight through. You would definately need at least another(maybe more) muffler. But if it isn't too loud you should be fine. Great to see and hear of progress, should be a little beast when done.

extractors on their own are quite loud, have no low-down power, and are illegal as they dump under the body and are above the legal noise requirement. i drove my ke20 with 5k and extractors only 30kms to get the exhaust put on...was VERY noisy and sucked trying to get up hills in higher gears, had to dump down to 3rd @ ~4500 to get any pull up them.

it currently has a 2 1/4 (ithink) exhaust with one muffler, and it's still too loud...i would love to test it to see just how loud.

cheers dF
