charl Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) hi all, ive been hunting parts for a while here on rollaclub and have had heaps of help from alot of you for which i am very greatfull, i thought it was about time i put a little bit about my project on here for you guys and girls to read about. it started off as me wanting to have a cool little granny spec rolla, nothing special, just really schmik! but finding one like that is hard nowadays as I'm sure you all know.... so i looked around and found myself a four hundred dollar "unfinished project". little did i know just how "unfinished" i was!! rust everywhere that i could not see when i looked at it initially, and plenty of little bits missing here and there. all the bits were in a box that came with the car, but i didnt know what i was looking for! anyway, i tried to do the body work myself and have had a fair bit of success using the only thing i know how to do, fibreglass... but to get that "schmikness" i was after would take either alot of time or money, time meant angry girlfriend because of the "heap of junk that doesnt even go anywhere" sitting in the yard for too long and lets face it, i don't have the money to pay someone to do the bodywork for me. then today it dawned on me... i love hotrods, most of all ratrods and dodgy looking matte rods and the like so.... now ive ammended my project to be a matte rod themed ke20 with uh.... interesting interior, whitewalls a must and definitely some hotrod styled pinstriping on the bonnet and boot!! so stay tuned as i will be updating this thread with pics and the like. and also a list of the people who helped me with parts etc!! I'm excited, :( i hope you are too! Charl ps. if you think the body is rough, or the paint looks crap or anything like that ill just tell you its meant to be that way, hence "ratrod inspired"!! PMP020 Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 hey charl, good to see uve got a thread started. glad i could help you with parts. look forward to seeing picks of yor 20. heres a quick pick of my mates ke25, it is very unfinished in this pick but i can't find any finished photos at the moment. gives u some idea of what it could look like. cheers, scott Quote
philbey Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 Scott is that ke25 the one from Belair that had a tree shaped dent in the front end? 5K? Its tough looking anyway. If you're going to do a satin paint job, do something different than black, try an oxide red or something! Quote
SLO-030 Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 does anybody know if its harder or easier to do a car with a satin paint job? CHEERS Ryan Quote
charl Posted April 19, 2008 Author Report Posted April 19, 2008 and so this is where I'm up to as of right now! yeah i did paint it outside, and yeah i did use cans. but so what! i didnt intend for it to be perfect anymore anyway! besides the photos don't do the paint justice anyway. years of graphitti practice finally paid off!! anyway, now that the outside is nearly finished, i can start working on the interior which my partner is quite interested in helping me with. which is good cause i can't sew for shit! so whats next? funky interior... custom roof lining, retrim door trims, recover seats, and i might have a bit of a play around with the dash, I'm thinking something a little more custom... cheers charl Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 way to kill a ke20....thats a very negative comment, i love the idea and even though if i was to do the same i would do some things differently i say good on you for doing something different to the norm. And when you look at it its not like you can't change it back at a later date :( Quote
Kid-Ae Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 Dude this will be a little goer :( ratrod/hotrod style is always going to be cool when it comes to corollas of this era Keep up the good work :o Quote
