Golberg Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 My 4AGE is going into my AE71 very soon and something which just occurred to me, when the small ports are actually in an AE92/93 don't they run a factory oil cooler? That being said, is it necessary to get one to put into my AE71 when the engine goes in? Cheers :) Quote
demotorsport Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 good question i have a 4agte and i want to put a oil cooler in aswell just not sure where to get the in and out lines from so if some1 can tell us where to buy one of those adapters to fit between the oil filter and block as i don't see any other way to do it and I'm sure its the only way to do it??? any1 done this before??? and where to buy from??? Jono Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 motorsport connections in seven hills sell all sorts of adapters, oil coolers, filter relocation kits etc. i'm not running one yet, but i have put in an oil temp gauge so i can keep an eye on the oil temp. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Unless you are in a situation where the motor is turbocharged or you are working the motor hard in the event of racing, I'm pretty sure that it is a waste of time (Someone else feel free to correct me if I am wrong). You don't want your oil too cold or too hot.. Quote
Jono Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 i figure my motor will only be boosting <5% of the time. Quote
fozz Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 i think running an oil cooler would have a good advantage over stock as long it was a thermostat operated one the ones that don't run thermostats make the oil to cold Quote
Des Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Stock coolers and sandwich plate = FAIL. Quote
Golberg Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 Well seeing as the car is only going to be a daily I think I probably wont need the oil cooler, which is good, means one less thing to worry about. Thanks for the advice. Quote
cerby Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 are the stock ae93 sandwich plates thermostatic?? I'm about to swap a 4age into my ae71 and i was just planning on using the stock sandwich plate with an aftermarket cooler. but if the standard plate isn't thermostatic then i will probably have to find one! Hiro Protagonist Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 nope stock coolers arent. They are, however, pressure regulated, so they don't open when oil pressure is low (at least thats the case for the AE102) Quote
tas_ae71 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 all standard ones feature a thermostat, smallport (and presumably later ones) had that low pressure protection. bigport version didnt. Quote
