Corollaspeedracer Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) I just put champion spark plugs wires, champion Cap aand rotor, and ngk SPrk plug. Know my 1977 corolla bogs out but has alot more power, can tell me why this might be happening? Edited April 9, 2008 by Corollaspeedracer Quote
Raven Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) Set the timing on the distributor. Once you've done that, adjust your fuel mixture by screwing the idle mixture screw in until the car starts to idle funny (don't screw it all the way home tight as it will damage the end of it thats inside the carb) and then unwind 1.5-2 turns. Let us know how you go :D Edited April 9, 2008 by Raven Quote

Corollaspeedracer Posted April 10, 2008 Author Report Posted April 10, 2008 What should I adjust the timing too? Quote
Raven Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 If you want a little more performance, I'd run at 10 degrees BTDC. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 Also check that the points are good and the gap is correct. Can loose heaps of power out of incorrently set points. :D Quote

Raven Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 points gap = take off dizzy cap and turn motor over by hand. ON the distributor shaft you will notice it is square shaped. You want the points to open up on one of the cams by turning the motor over by hand and stopping it when the points open up. Then set your points gap. I can't remember what the gap is though. Someone got a workshop manual to specify what the points gap is meant to be? Quote
DearmanKE Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 yes anyone got the points gap? i need it stock 4k Quote

SLO-030 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Ok i this'll sound a bit dumb but how do you set the timing? Do you line up the timing mark on the timin cover and turn the dizzy round till the rotor lines up with #1 on the dizzy cap? never had to do it before but this seems like the way to do it.
