Just wondering how others have over come the lack of space where the exhaust goes over the diff, and where it pokes out near the fuel tank. I know mines a bit different to the sedans being leaf sprung and a different tank as well as having the spare wheel under there too.

At the moment the the exhaust is getting squashed between the fuel tank and floor pan, and I can't put the spare under it because it fouls on the rear muffler. I was going to cut the exhaust off before the diff and roll it over a little to miss the tank, then run a straight 3"pipe out the back with no muffler where the original muffler would have been. But thats only going to leave the hot dog/resonator at the front and she makes a bit of noise as is.

Shitty pic of whats going on under there at the moment, sits a little higher of diff when on the hangers.

You couldn't maybe run a set of short stroke shocks and run it under the diff?

3 inch under the diff will scrub on everything though so choose wisely, Do you drive the car every day ?

Beat me to it, 2.5 is decent enough.

Yeah?, I thought 3" was the norm for any turbo motor then up from there.

Thought about going under but it is a daily.

It is a pretty dodgy exhaust, like the rest of the car that I haven't had to fix yet. There's only one flange under the passenger foot well, so to get the rest out it's either a remove diff job or get the grinder out type of thing :D

So 2.5 might be the way to go, and maybe even (shudders) a cannon muffler so I can fit the spare. Trying to do it on the cheap to as 1st year wages suck ass, 2.5" mufflers seem to be a lot cheaper then a 3"wouldn't think 1/2 an inch could make that much difference :hmm:

Thanks Guys

Dan

but isn’t it with turbo you only need back pressure in the manifold

i'm going 3 inch been told by a fella that runs a 12 second 4agte that its a perfect size.

jsut do what i'll be doing when i set the turbo up, straight 2.25" from the turbo dump thru a single muffler and dump it before the diff or out the side infront of the rear wheel.

My understanding is that you only need a large diameter pipe from your turbo to carry the exhast gas away from the motor/turbo, this allows the exhaust flow to change to an axial flow pattern (meaning it will exit faster = better flow).

Once this has been established your large pipe only needs to run for around 18 to 24 inches (457 to 609 mm), you can them reduce the pipe diamiter with out reducing the exhaust gas flow.

If you can find it, look out for a book called Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes published by HP Books (ISBN 0-912656-49-2). The book has been around for years but has heaps of relivent turbo info.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but thats illegal dude. Has to be 30cm past the most rearward opening window, which in your and my case is the rear quarter glasses.

Look at his signature dude, I don't think he care's :D

I couldn't see reducing the size by half a inch causing to much trouble as long as it's a smooth transition, if it wasn't for the stupid angle on the shocks I'd just notch/tub the floor for the exhaust :hmm: maybe not.

i wasnt talkin bout sizes for a turb 1.6 just what id be doin. and bout legalities i'll dump it before the diff and keep the original muffler pointin out the back to make it look stock.
